Baltimore - " What the heck was that ?"

Recommended Posts

This boom phenom is starting to peak everyone's interest as clearly it isn't quake related.

Some other phenomenon is occurring, though what is still unknown. No secondary or tertiary waves as in quakes so it remains unknown. Last quake in the area was 1928.

Michael Maykrantz was on duty at a fire house on 74th street in Ocean City when the floor began to shake and the doors started to rattle.

At Bart Rader’s house in Ocean Pines, a loud boom “like somebody blew something up” preceded shaking so heavy that it rattled a 50-pound metal sculpture against the wall.

Miles away in Annapolis, Ocean City Mayor Rick Meehan was meeting in state Sen. James Mathias’ office when he got a text message from his daughter: “What the heck was that?”

A series of tremors rattled residents across Ocean City and the lower Delmarva Peninsula around midday Thursday, puzzling geologists and emergency managers. Within a few hours, geologists ruled out an earthquake, and by Thursday evening, signs pointed to supersonic jets flying from the Patuxent Naval Air Station, though station officials could not confirm when the flights would have passed by Ocean City.

Some still suspect something more mysterious. Rader said similar rumblings occur once every three or six months, and Thursday’s was the most intense yet.

“We’ve never got one like today,” he said.

I'm reading a lot on the oil and gas industry responsible for much of this by both extracting and injecting fluids underground that eventually slippage is occurring. Now, I'd love for a geologist to weigh in here. If there are any here or have a background in it do weigh in.

Texas as well as northern Oklahoma have both been experiencing them ( booms and the horn sound) in drilling areas. But does this explain those occurring in areas where exploration is not abundant ? Clearly there's some kind of phenomenon occurring. The cause is still being dicussed. I like a good mystery but I like answers too.

I'm glad I'm not alone...we've been hearing noises here as well, but they seem to be coming from above.

My entire neighborhood was awoken last Wednesday to the sky-groaning many have been talking about. I know the sounds are electromagnetic and are naturally produced, I'm just not sure how. Plus , they're extremely creepy.

This video by Kimberly Wooky captures exactly what we've been hearing..it is extremely loud and very disturbing:

I have read some scientists are posing the idea that the sun is acting on our magnetosphere. But why now ?

What has changed with one or both that is creating this phenomenon ? Like you I believe it's entirely naturally generated but I've been having fun reading people preparing for the second coming, or first, which ever you believe in.

The fact they are often accompanied by these booms is curious too. I'm looking forward to an answer.

If you get a chance record those you hear and post them. Though sometimes they sound like nails on a chalkboard. Ewww.

Well as long as the sounds aren't coming from invisibly cloaked alien ships there probably isn't much to fret over.  Guess I'm thankful I've never heard such noises before in my part of the country.

It's a really creepy sound and is louder than a bunch of car alarms..so you're lucky.. :P

As for why they're occurring, they seem to correlate with the size of the magnetosphere relative to the strength of the open solar flux.

The noises were heard back in the early 1800s as well, right before the Dalton Minimum..so it suggests the Sun may influence the Earth's geomagnetic resonance.

Until it was brought up I would've assumed these mysterious noises were all a bunch of BS as I don't hear these things.     Interesting though that the news media has picked up on this so called mysterious noise.     Usually on a major newspaper anything that even hints at tin foil is banned often in an unjustified manner.

Don't forget HARRP may be messing with the atmosphere and are creating electromagnet discharges which may come out as mysterious *booms* that no scientist can explain since they have a closed mind set to begin with.    The old method is no longer working clearly and they need to be more open minded to adjust to the times.

This is being reported by observers regarding these sounds.

I can't comment much except they believe they saw what they saw and heard what they heard.
