I just realized that it's really only been 2 months and 8 days since I last mowed grass. If it doesn't get cold again down here in the next 3 weeks, it may be hard not to mow again by March 1st. :(

DFW had 77 yesterday, what kind of highs have you been getting?

75 today. Some spots to my south broke 80 today. It's crazy. I'm used to big warm ups sometimes in February or March but they usually follow an extreme arctic outbreak that kinda balances them out. This winter just blows on all levels.

For yby, it surely has. I just scanned through my posts for that (1) week back in early Dec when things were rockin' up here for SWMI and it looked for all intents and purposes that we were on our way to an awesome season. I should know better because none of the seasons featuring really strong cold waves in December went on to be solid wall-to-wall great ones.  At least I've had my moments up here vs you way down there. IF we could actually get some synoptic storms in the favorable alignment, the grade could be improved (in a strange way) since the LES has been good overall. The constant torching though has ruined what positives this season has delivered around here. This continues to act like a Nino regardless of ENSO. The dreaded "pay-back season" has been realized :(

There's just something about living here that makes people funnier than people from Iowa. *Grabs popcorn and waits for someone to be offended*

I'm always offended because you guys are to the west of us. I always tell myself well at least I don't live in Nebraska no matter how bad it is here I don't live there.

Iowa is full of thugs who steal snow. Nebraska is a poor, innocent state.

Considering Nebraska has more thug's per 1000 people maybe we should talk about the Nebraska thugs and no I don't mean the Nebraska Cornhuskers during the 90s.

We have them all consolidated to a town named Kearney.

A bit of frustration? It’s every day in this thread and it’s Nov 13th which means we have 4 months of winter left yet most likely. None of us here outside of maybe one person has seen accumulating snow (2+ inches) so far yet no one is complaining but you guys

Moved from the other thread cuz I wanted to stop cluttering up that one.

It is not that we're not getting snow, it is that we are not getting any appreciable precipitation while everyone to our North and East is. I don't know how many times I have to tell you that. There is not one recent Winter where that scenario has turned out well for us. So seriously, stop whining about our whining because in no way, shape, or form does it affect you.

HawkeyeWx posted a November map (not sure the year) where the entire region was very dry yet the winter went on to be a good one. Think it was '07? Things don't have to remain the same, just because they have in the past.

Deal is just us right here being dry. November 2009 was dry for everyone and that turned into a top 10 year here. The deal is when everyone around us gets doused but not us, that historically ends up being not good. Does history fail sometimes? Of course it does, but nothing is pointing at it failing.

Yeah, when I was about your age and an avid skier with new equipment I was all geeked for a great winter, especially because the prior year had been awesome in SEMI. What'd Ma Nature toss me tho? The Super Nino of '82-83 a death knell for SMI. Had to wait until the first day of spring to see anything above a coating. The entire season consisted of one storm at spring that was too late to do anything with. Growing up back then, I'd never even heard of El Nino!

One of the arguments from people on here that I hear a lot is "Nebraska's climo doesn't support a ton of snow." Well it doesn't support BN snowfall for 7 straight years either. We average 25" a season here and we've been lucky to hit 20 since our last AN season in 2010-2011 (Which was only AN cuz of a loaded March).

I'm punting on this pattern. I've held out at least a little hope for as long as possible, but it's become clear that this pattern is gonna hang around for awhile with it's tasty, dry, NW flow. Let's shuffle the cards please, I don't like the ones that I've been dealt.

Last Winter was my first one here. Last year, 2.2" of our season total 7.5" fell when I was gone. Seems like I got the majority until you realize that 7.5" is a near record low for here.

This year, 4.2 out of 4.3" has fallen while I've been gone. And on the day it snowed that .1" at the airport, it was sleet at my place. And now we're getting a screw job reminiscent of last year. Seriously, it's my fault.

I ignored all the Nebraska posters. It's really annoying hearing them complain more than anyone else, when most of us are in the same situation. I haven't used my snowmobile in two and a half years, because there's been no snow and I haven't been able to travel. We get it, we know NE has had horrible winters since 2014, so have most of us. Stop whining and talk about meteorology.

I didn't want to clutter up that thread anymore than it already has been, let's bring that one back to its intended purpose and move this over here.

None of us have said you guys don't deserve anything or none of us are in the same boat. No fricking crap this has been a horrible snow Winter for everyone except Michigan. And to ignore us, people who do use meteorology, over being disappointed over one storm is just dumb. It's almost as if you guys don't want it to snow here just for lolz. Not once have I used emotions to forecast, so to be ignored for stating what is true, we are going to have another bad Winter if this keeps us, is just dumb.

And we have not had even an above average Winter since 2012-13, and that year we couldn't hold a snowpack to save our lives.

Sorry, I'm not going to feel sympathy for the people who live North and East of us.  They've had by far a better record over the last 10 years.  13/14 alone was enough to give them the edge. They would not be able to cope with living here and I find it very hypocritical that they complain when storms miss them as well.  Stop the high and mighty attitude.  The only thing that makes the last couple winters of crap more bearable is that the other areas were not getting slammed while we get left in the dust.  13/14 was painful and really left me bitter.

At least Erie and Buffalo are expecting a storm. They haven't gotten anything this year and they need it.

Seriously, the reason why our climo looks like we don't get a ton of snow is because of the brutal **** jobs we have received over the past few years. Want a representation of how Winters here SHOULD be? Go to any decade between the 1940s and the 2000s and look at the period where a "bad" Winter was the same definition as a good one now. It's sad how nowadays a GOOD Winter is below normal. And "normal" keeps going down and down. We're in the Midwest too. There's no legit reasons for constant shaftings, phantom storms, and all that .
