44,000 are evacuating due to unstable buildings, fear of more quakes, and volcanic eruption.

Amazing situation there. Hard to say what will happen as the island is very volcanic.

"There are also concerns about volcanic activity in the wake of the quake. The island of Kyushu, where the earthquake happened, is a highly volcanic area. A level 2 warning – meaning people should not approach a volcano’s crater – has been in place for Asosan in Kumamoto prefecture on the island since November 2015"

Just since the last post there's been 23 aftershocks in the mid 4's to mid 5's.

One major after shock was 7.0

Death toll climbing to 32. Information is understandably difficult to get out.

most buildings are damaged to some degree with many unstable and dangerous.

Genkai and Sendai are being watched closely right now

Note the number of nuclear reactors on the coasts.

I looked this up. It's caused by the decaying or organic material from the ocean, specially plankton.
