2017 California/Southwest Weather Thread

They are way underdoing the marine layer forecast. I am guessing it will reach Santa Clarita Valley and the entire Inland Empire by the morning, possibly even reaching the mountain passes.

Then again it could get deep enough to weaken the inversion and clear quickly like it did for the morning of the eclipse.

When do you think we will see our 1st real storm system of season? I think will occur around October 10-20th time frame.

What is your definition of "real" storm? At least an inch widespread across SoCal could easily occur in October especially late in the month.

Another strange marine layer day today with some beaches clearing and some inland areas not clearing. Question is whether or not it will reach the lower coastal slopes again overnight or if it will start to get shallower as the night progresses.

Another possibility is tomorrow starting out very deep with a new inversion forming during the day, leading to complete clearing everywhere.

Looks like our inversion could become super-strong. Probably somewhere in the range of 20-30 degrees Celsius. I don't think the beaches will get the heat. It will be more like our June heat wave with a 50 degrees F difference between beach and desert. Never in history has an inversion of over 10 degrees Celsius been wiped out by offshore flow.

Hurricane Harvey is going to wander around Texas like an enormous cutoff low. It will not deepen the marine layer there though. Looks like our developing high pressure ridge will get it stuck.

Did you just say the marine layer will not deepen in Texas?   A massive hurricane and feet of rain but at least they don't have to worry about a deepening marine layer?

Marine layer continues to dominate near the coast and many beaches could have trouble reaching 70 degrees today. In inland areas where it was cloudy this morning, the residual marine layer moisture is adding lots of humidity to the hot temperatures.

Still it is extremely rare to see temperatures over 100 anywhere in Orange County without the marine layer being completely wiped out, so it will be interesting to see what happens. Maybe a 40 degree difference between the beaches and 10 miles inland.

Cumulus clouds have occurred daily all last week but little vertical build ups. This is looking north toward Mt Wilson

Smoky out there.

This time its coming up from the south and it seems like NW flow during the day is helping keep the smoke out of the northern areas which is the opposite of earlier this month.

Looks like onshore flow ramps up starting tomorrow into Wednesday which should give us a reset... but I am sure it will be back over the weekend as high pressure builds again.

Wrong thread... sorry.

You are welcome any time. For a minute I thought you were in Temucula/ Hidden Meadows. No fires of any significance down here thankfully though that will likely change for the worse w/ building ridge.
