Its cold and cloudy outside with a current reading of 12F along with  a nice snowcover.

On where we stand so far, this winter season While December was cold and snowy (for two weeks) the rest of the winter has been mild with less snow than average. Some snow fall totals Grand Rapids 53.8” Lansing 27.0” Muskegon 38.80” Detroit 30.2” Flint 31.8” Here is where they stand in Norther Lower Michigan

Even to our north it has been a hit and miss season.

Stuck at 5.9" for the season here in Omaha.  Brown, crappy and just plain sucks.

 

No changes on the horizon for the foreseeable future.

In Chicago I believe we just tied a record for longest period without measureable snowfall. Glad I was here to witness this great accomplisment

48 day streak without 1" of snow....natures balancing act I guess...I saw Skillings show last night and it was something like 117 years since it's been this bad.

Tomorrow it will be three years to the day that we had our last daily snowfall above 2.6 inches. Another way to look at it:

Feb 5, 2014 - Feb 3, 2017 (1,095 days): 26.9"

Wondering if any of it can survive the hot, hot, hot front side of the storm though??? NWS talking T-showers no less. Guessing we'll be back to piles and drifts like every torch this winter, lol

Probably not. Tbh, I would not mind to see a severe T'stm with this system.

I like the fact that the days have gotten longer. The sun angle is a bit stronger this time of the year also. Today I noticed that snow was melting as the sun was beating on it with temps in the 20s.

Would certainly be memorable if somebody sees both a T-storm and then bliz conditions from a single storm. That's like plains wx! Giving "da Thumb" region as having the best shot at it.

Even Montreal, CA will see a changeover to rain, but, b/4 that happens, they will get several inches of snow.

Was 13 but up to 14 now. Calm though. Winds were strong today and blowing snow off of roofs everywhere like it was a preview of coming attractions or something. I stepped out to my ride about 10 and it didn't feel too bad. Weird how the body can adjust to extremes.

Normally wouldn't post the CAN when it's basically on its own-- but haven't had anything to post this year. Won't happen-- but at least its something to look at-- and only just past 5 days out... ** edit** actually the GFS has it also---=-

With clear skies and calm winds the temperature fell to +2° here at my house (looks like +5° at the airport) In the last two winters the coldest it has gotten officially is +1° on February 14^th of 2016.  The coldest it has been this winter is +2° on January 6^th and the last time Grand Rapids reached 0° was on March 5^th 2015 and the last time it has gotten below zero was on February 28^th 2015 and the last time it has gotten -10° or colder was on February 27^th 2015. In other words we have gone almost two years without reaching a subzero day here in west Michigan.

We easily can add at least another 10-15 days onto this record.

Recent stretch of winters for Chicago have been great, but look at the 60's & 70's. Talk about killing it!! Golden era for sure

Happy Super Bowl Sunday!  Ahhh, it's nice to wake up to Full sunshine this morning.  You can already feel the difference in the strength of the sun getting stronger and higher in the horizon.  Meantime, both the Euro/GFS still showing a strong wave in NE/KS mid week.

Those will be some very high snow ratios in the Plains if this wave can hold together and provide enough moisture.

Gotta hope this clipper coming doesn't completely turd out by the time Tuesday night rolls around. Would love to see a couple inches before the torch rolls in later in the week.

With the clear skies, last night, the temperature fell to 14° here at my house (16° officially at the airport) I am now down to 3” snow on the ground here now and as there is now snow at all on the ground south of Michigan I would look for the temperatures to ramp up if we can get a south wind anytime from now on. I am not saying winter is over yet because where we live it can get cold and we can have snow all the way into April. But with the days getting longer and the sun angle getting higher ever day it’s safe to say we should be on the upward trend.
