Would be a really great way to end the snow season with once in a 50 year storm!

Is that really a once in 50 year storm. Similar looking snow storms in April and May are very common occurrence in SW Alberta and the Canadian Rocky mtn foothills. I always assumed they extended south of the border as well.

For the valley floors definitely. Missoula airport only has 1 day of 7" on record, everything else is below 5". I'm sure there is another 7" day that's spread across two in there, but that comes out to about once a 50 year storm, definitely once in a generation storm if some snow records are missing. Obviously it's a once a decade storm for a place like Great falls.

One 7" day on record? For April or any month? Either way, hope it works out for you.

Just for April. I really doubt we would get more than an inch, since it's a wrf pretty map. I bet the plains east of the rockies do score something similar to what is advertised however.

You need to work on being a little more clear. Often really hard to follow your posts.

Getting near warning criteria level wind gusts. Sometimes it makes it hard to stand straight outside.

A bit to my south, maybe 4-5 miles away there is a big dust cloud towards that way.

One, 4-8" snowstorm here in Bozeman (which is on the valley floor but at 4,800') is a yearly occurrence in April so definitely not anywhere historic for the region.

Missoula does seem to really struggle with spring snowfall due to its relatively low elevation and being west of the divide. With that said, it's still pretty surprising that the greatest single day snowfall record in April is only 7" in Missoula.

Any Euro snow maps through the weekend? GFS has been consistent with 1-2" of snow Saturday morning in Bend. Wouldn't mind a little late season event.

Bummer. It didn't seem like it when I looked at the publicly available every 24 hour low positions, but maybe the cutoff was really short lived and would only show up at night, during 00z timeframe sat night. Hopefully 00z euro moves in the right direction and we see a cutoff over the continental divide.

Although it does look like there is a small circle over flathead lake on one frame...

The next 36 hours should be eventful. T'storms, wind, and more April snow than I've seen since I moved to Klamath Falls in 2010.

Sounds like a typical day at work for me at Mt. Bachelor. Just kidding only once have I had students in gusts above 70mph. They all got blown over. 87mph gusts are common at the top of NW Express though (my favorite chair).

Yikes, dude. You actually ski in that? I always try to avoid skiing in high winds. Too easy for something to go wrong given my clumsy nature. I once had an iffy experience on a chairlift during an Arctic front and haven't tested my luck since. :P

Snowshoe is a** backwards, in that the resort sits on the summit of the mountain, rather than the base, so it's always brutal up there. Rare for gusts to fall below 40mph at any time during the cold season.

Sounds truly miserable.

Snoqualmie Summit is in a mountain valley and its usually calm there even when its windy in Seattle. I have never skied in anything close to windy conditions there.

I can't imagine sitting on the lift in 40 mph winds.

Wind is absolutely howling this morning.

HIO has already gusted to 61, SLE 54, PDX 53.

I'd say we finally have ourselves a nice wind storm.

It depends on how cold it is and visiblity but my limit is about 50-60mph before it's too much for me. Fortunately they just installed a new chair on the far lee side of the mountain so we can escape the high winds now if we really desire.

The worst was when I got caught in the onset of a blizzard down at Mammoth Mountain, CA. High up on the mountain with sustained 70mph winds blowing perpendicular to the chair. We got smashed into the lift tower a couple times but made it out safely.

That's a nice looking swirl offshore, pressure is down to 988mb here now; definitely not your typical April. I woke up to the northern band swinging through this area, looks like a there was a couple hours of moderate rains and modest winds. Nothing crazy in terms of winds so far though on the northern side of this, in fact it's pretty calm out at the moment.

56 mph now at PDX and 86 mph at the Zoo. Also saw a report of 78 in the West Hills near my old house.

Very impressive April storm, one for the record books. The beat goes on...
