A place to talk about the weather that effects our region without the annoying BC and Puget Sound Area bias.

I think spitting the weather groups by region is not a bad way to go since our winters are so incredibly different. Last year being a prime example, Oregon/SW Wa got hammered while us up north could hardly buy an inch of slop. And the opposite being the case a few years ago. So yeah good idea!

Well I still plan on participating in the British Columbia/ Puget Sound thread. But being accused of regional bias when making factual comments gets old after awhile. I love talking PNW weather, meaning Puget Sound, N Interior, Spokane, Bend, K-Falls, NE Oregon, etc... But the problem is 75% of the posters don't want to discuss anything outside of BC/Puget Sound, won't acknowledge it, and get upset when people do.

Esp the fact that it appears our winter might be a decent bit "warmer" and less eventful as compared to the lowlands up north. I just want at least 1 good blast.

Well historically speaking it would not be unexpected. We have just had a good run compared to them recently. Especially 2016/17 and 2013/14.

Eh, I think everyone has their own biases and the regional ones are hardly the largest around here.

It is interesting how regional biases form too. You have lived in the Puget Sound area and Silverton. I think there were a few active winters when you lived in Tacoma (?), and I know the years you lived in Silverton were about the most boring string of winters ever down here. If you'd lived down here say 1989-96' you might have a little more interest in it...

COMPLETELY different topic. They're literally the only NFL team in the PNW. Can't blame people for talking about them, though it does go a little overboard on game day sometimes.

I have plenty of family and friends in OR, though. I'm honestly interested in both areas.

I think some of this "my little region can beat up your little region" stuff is getting blown out of proportion. It's not that big of a deal most the time.  :)

Again, the main reason is that it appears the 2 regions may have drastically different winters. PSL got the cold last year but not the snow. We will likely get a lot less cold down in the valley than the Puget Sound had last winter. Needs to be separate IMO

Most years the Puget Sound region will beat the Willamette Valley, at least in terms of snowfall. N. Interior basically always will.

I get your point, but at the same time there are things like model analysis that apply to the whole region and it kind of sucks to break that into multiple threads.

Yes, but when no matter how you analyse it you get accused of regional bias it gets old. Listen the trough this weekend was nothing special. It tapped into some nice low level cold that gave snow to low elevations in W. Washington. That was unusual and awesome and I didn't say it wasn't. But if you go back and look at the trough the first weekend of 2011 they are pretty similar at the upper levels.

Also the 12z is no different than several runs of the GFS the past few days. It is pretty obvious there is little ensemble support or support from any other models for that solution and the bulk of the cold air stays north and is shunted east. Really nothing special. Yet people who continue to point out facts are constantly derided.
