December Weather In the PNW

BLI snowman

Recommended Posts

What about the poor Puget Sound people?

I had a sloppy dusting! I keep forgetting just how epic it has been for parts of Oregon over the last 6yrs. Perhaps that will continue this season.

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

Wow, jealous. The Steens Mountain area has long been on my bucket list. You’ll have to keep us posted over the winter. How is internet out there?

. Actually, Verizon rocks here, and the T-Mobile is not too bad...

Also we always remember the events we miss out on. MossMan has had some decent events too that were nothing down here.

I remember years ago (8?) camping up Big Indian Gorge and having cell service, wondering how on earth? 2017 and I don't have cell service at my house...

What an incredible wavebreak. Even if it's not favorably located you have to appreciate the beauty of something like that.

Feb 2014 it was pretty chilly here, wasn't it? We had that blast of arctic air and snow on March 1 or something during the Heritage Classic when Luongo sat out of the game.

You guys up north had a late February 2014 event. The one that hit NW Oregon was in early February.

SE Ridge incoming?

The SE ridge/western trough should start after Christmas, likely around New Years (right as the pattern changes).

Lots of signs. None of them good.

As I said a few weeks ago, the December pattern will scare the crap out of you guys.

However, IMO, January looks to be as troughy as December is ridgy. ☃️

So Phil... they say GOES16 is now in the process of drifting over to 75W to replace GOES13.

Does that mean we lose the high definition satellite coverage out west that we have enjoyed since GOES16 went online?

It's at 89.3W right now, so it's a shift of ~ 14 degrees. I think it's still supposed to cover the entire US, but I haven't been following it closely.

Really?

This type of thing in a Nina winter almost always has a good outcome for us.  This will probably be a shared winter (across the country) like 1995-96.  In the meantime it will be cold here.
