0Z EPS matches up nicely with todays 12z runs.

12z Ukie digs it down to N MX...

Then ends up near Toronto...

KLOT Met's comments..

"Despite the large difference in surface low track and also timing on the GFS and GGEM, they both went strongly toward the general idea portrayed by the 00z Euro suite of a stronger southern stream system (which ironically the GEM was the first to show a few days ago). The GGEM hangs it back more and is therefore slower and tracks farther southeast.

Ideally for my coverage area (northern IL and northwest IN) the wave would strengthen even quicker to consolidate and deepen the 850 mb low quicker. Using the 12z GFS and 00z Euro as a reference, the poor antecedent air mass messes things up for us despite a climatologically favorable surface low track.

But we can get this improved (assuming a still favorable sfc low track) by an earlier maturing and tucked in 850 mb low, which will surge the cold enough air in quicker northwest of the sfc low. You can see that the 850 mb low starts out very broad even as sfc low is deepening rapidly at 06z Saturday but then becomes more more consolidated 6 hours later over MI. To get this outcome, we'd want to see a trend toward an even stronger wave that would deepen the whole system quicker while not cutting too far west."

12z GEFS members dig the southern energy as far south as the Ukie, down into N MX!  It's crazy to think how far we have gone tracking this system compared to just a day or two ago.

GEFS tracking the storm along the OV...

Further south the better imho. This will allow the cold to set-up a better baroclinic path, and keep it from cutting over my head..certainly a long ways to go, but you stayed to course bud, congrats! Hope you get nailed good!

Picture perfect if the cold is in place to limit liquid. A tad on the front end is ok, but I hate to see half wasted on puddle making the way that GFS Op run portrayed..

Gosh, I hope so...for the sake of my sanity of not seeing brown grass on Christmas!  I'm praying for this holiday to be magical this year.  Not only in the wx dept, but I have some stuff brewing at work which may provide some added joy.

This from MKX at 9:58 AM...

"We are still watching the snow potential for Thu through Friday.  The 12Z models are trending colder and drier for southern WI."

Am I missing something?  I had the sense the models were trending wetter here, not drier?

Guessing they meant that wave 1 was looking drier as the focus shifts to wave 2. Depending on the exact track of w2, you could see your POPs increase again from that part of the storm.

12z Ukie precip...not as developed of a storm but hinting at the southern stream player...

at 72 hours, the Euro has the energy way to the south.  Let's see if it explodes NE or heads more ENE into the OHV.

Euro doesn't even show snow for that 2nd SLP.  it's all rain on the back side.  I'm not buying that to be honest.  Rarely is there not at least some snow on the back side.  Well the GFS is in a camp alone with a more western solution.  Model madness to continue through at least tomorrow I'd say.

The models showed more similarity 5 days ago compared to now. That’s fun.

Classic d4-3 confusion!

You do better on both. I just scored 12.5" over 10 days, the 5-ish shown by the GFS won't excite, especially if it's lost to rain puddles, falls with temps at 35F etc.. Pardon me, but I'm setting the bar a bit higher, Christmas or not.. I'm still awaiting my pay-back for the '09 fiasco
