Christmas Holiday Snow Event

The general consensus from the models is perhaps an inch in Cedar Rapids.  I can't say I'm too excited to see(and shovel) that little amount, but I suppose if we cut out all the nickel/dimers our avg annual snowfall would be about ten inches.

season snowfall: 34.8"

'22-23: 30.2"      '21-22: 27.1"      '20-21: 52.5"      '19-20: 36.2"      '18-19: 50.2"      '17-18: 39.5"

Average snowfall: ~30"

Couple of inches of snow looking like a real good bet. Lets see if accumulations go higher.

Yeah ditto to James' post. Looks nice out in Central Nebraska. Lincoln is just getting started. Looks like everything is South of where many models wanted to put it, OAX may even consider taking the Northern tier of counties out of the WWA. That is quite the tight gradient.

That would be Omaha. I’m not even in town so it’s fine with me if it doesn’t snow much!

Latest RAP came north nicely in Iowa.

HRRR is adjusting northward as well. Which makes sense since the HRRR is a RAP derivative.

Still snowing lightly with VIS around 2-3 miles. Measurement at 12Z was 1.2" and have added several tenths since. Going to be very close to 2" when it's all said and done.   Amazing how a fresh snowfall changes the landscape - even more so when it's been since last March with a snowfall over 1" here.  The Brown is officially "Down"!!!   And it looks like some more chances of the white stuff throughout the work week and cold enough temps to keep whatever falls around. Winter has finally arrived!!!

The two loudest sounds known to man: a gun that goes bang when it is supposed to go click and a gun that goes click when it is supposed to go bang.

Looking at radar trends, seems like the system is getting its act together a bit better which was forecast to do so.  Snow hole filling in over chitown...flakes should begin flying shortly....glad that this event will be on going through the day...can't ask for more, surprise event for many of us to enjoy a little snow on this special holiday.  I love it when it snows with cold temps in place.

Grizz, I was thinking about you and the rest of the S IA peeps who have seemingly missed every system over the last several years.  I'm happy for you and the rest who are lucky to pick up a score right before the holiday.

FWIW, 12z NAM upped totals for N IL/N IN/MI peeps....

Nice trending, love to see some pink showing even if it's not over mby. Quite a bit is lake contribution for this area. Here's to covering our grass blades!

Edit-not a flake yet 3hrs into my WWA
