January Weather In the PNW

If we can still do it, you guys can too. It will definitely happen sooner or later.

Sorry about the OT, but this is just nuts. Apparently it was also the coldest 2 weeks of 12/25 - 1/7 on record. Even the modern day UHI couldn’t stop it. Holy icicles.EHPIbQN.png

you know Robert Filex likely has been busy posting quite a bit of the cold records on his blog site.

Black Mirror is great... each episode is pretty much a stand alone movie.   Totally different characters too.   Usually the theme is around technology gone too far.

Black Mirror's 'Callister' to Launch as Series? 'I've Heard Buzzes,' Says Star

By Matt Webb Mitovich /

The U.S.S. Callister‘s mission may be far from over.

The outer space-themed episode of Netflix’s Black Mirror Season 4 was so richly realized and faithful to its obvious inspirations that some have clamored for its crew (of sorts) to continue on, in a standalone series. And maybe, just maybe, that will happen.

C-Z has been swipping this area a bit. Best action has been just across the county line and over towards Duvall.

The best (and scariest) part of it is that many episodes don't feel all that far-fetched.

Sort of a Twilight Zone for the 21st century.

Wow, that's amazing. No doubt this winter has been blocky as hell.

Probably a preview of what's ahead the next few years with solar min.

Yeah, that’s my hope. The AP index should start dropping fast fairly soon..I think.

Flare activity has come down a bit in recent years..perhaps not down to solar minimum levels yet, though.

Yep... that is a good comparison.

2009 was a spectacular summer here near the bottom of that last dip.  :)

My brother told me about a episode that had something to do with having intercorse with a pig. Wierd.

That was the first episode ever.   It dealt with blackmail of a politician.

I think Netflix started promoting it more recently. But it's been around a few years.

It been around since 2011.

But they just added season 4.

I'm thinking 80% chance of blech and fog with a high of 49.

12Z ECMWF showed east winds... no fog... and dry weather with plenty of sun.

00Z GFS is not so optimistic.

That is one strong c-zone.

This is the kind of CZ I dream of in a colder airmass.

It's been sitting more or less over me since about Noon.

Stronger/strat-coupled PV over Greenland so far on the 00z. Let’s see if/how it affects the progression this run.

Maybe for Dewey. East offshore winds are practically unheard of in the southern Willamette Valley. The mountains to our east are too beefy.

Ahhh yes... then your forecast is correct.   Forgot you were way down south.

That is a few inch per hour type snow if it was colder!

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

Would be a challenge, at least on this run..where is the cold supposed to come from? It all gets blasted away by the jet.

Well, it’s clown range stuff, but the upper level PV evacuates Greenland in a big way starting day 9. Maybe the pressure rises up there can start bleeding Arctic back into western Canada thereafter.
