Low for last night was 61 F, but the night before was 58 F.

 

Today is pretty hot so far. Does not feel much cooler than yesterday.

Not hot to me. In-fact it is 5-10 degrees cooler than yesterday afternoon. Clouds are keeping temps in check. Dew points under 50 inland.

Lots of clouds just to the north. They look like they could have some virga in them. A strong, cool breeze has started as well. Possibly a coastal eddy spinning up.

Foothill Ranch went from 85 to 76 in the last hour in a half, but the large thick high cloud has passed, which may allow it to warm up again. Wind definitely feels like a coastal eddy.

Regardless of the lack of any low clouds, San Diego forecast discussion says there was a deeper marine layer today. That's why it was a cooler day.

Low clouds made a late arrival this morning. The places where they came in earlier had low closer to 60 F, while the places that stayed clear most of the night dropped into the 50s.

Oceanside Harbor (high: 63 F) and Del Mar Beach (high: 62 F) were the places to be today for people whose favorite season is winter.

 

Most of inland Orange County was upper 70s to low 80s.

Actual fog this morning, not just low clouds. Once they burn off it should be pretty warm today away from the beach.

A battle continues to ensue between the 58-61 degree ocean water and the ridge of high pressure, making cold to comfortable to hot almost within walking distance.

Why is it that so many people love air temperatures below 70 F? OCTA bus is so freezing cold I had to put on my jacket as the A.C. is refrigerating away.

 

Miami Airport had their A.C set to 60 F last time I was there. Outside was 90 F. How is it that more than 50% of people find the indoor temperature pleasant for summer attire?

 

For people who don't feel cold in 60 F in summer clothes, 90 F must feel to them like 150 F would feel to me.

I've always had this curiousity myself. However, I've worked in the temperature extremes of Oklahoma for 15+ years so I'm seldom comfortable at what people call "room temperature". By June I can hang out in 80° weather for hours and never break a sweat. In December-April, I'm good at 65° inside and can sleep at 60° in really cold seasons. Most folks nowadays never stay outside anymore long enough to properly develop heat or cold tolerance. In other words, we're mostly lazy. I'm backwards to everyone else in that way.

Coastal low clouds are referred to as "high fog" in the Bay Area.

The coastal eddy is churning, but burn off was faster today. Hopefully the eddies of the upcoming gray/gloom season eventually pull up warmer water from the south to make the mornings warmer and the beaches suitable for swimming without a wet suit. Eddy winds tend to have the opposite effect of upwelling.

Only 105 F for Thermal today. They did not quite make it to 110 F as they said was possible.

Hottest day of the year so far for Oceanside Harbor and Del Mar Beach: January 28. Both reached 87 F that day.

Looks like a classic May Gray pattern developing later this week and into the following week. There may even be a bit of drizzle on Friday morning and Friday night / Saturday morning. Highs will mostly be in the 70's, with some possible upper 60's this weekend.

Should be one more nice day before the reality of May Gray sets in. Actually it has been surprising that beaches have been clearing at all lately given the hot inland temperatures and below normal sea surface temperatures, which should be creating a very strong inversion.
