More indicators of climate warming. For the past 24 years of tabulating data at my location the minimum readings have been several degrees warmer than historic averages for nearby stations [Pasadena/ USC].

Record heat continues in Europe. It's a long way away, but my mom was in Germany and the Czech Republic from May 1-16 visiting my brother who found his wife in Berlin during one of his band tours and moved there. Most days were much warmer than here.

 

Southern California has one of the best climates in the world except for 2 months of the year.

 

Today was warm, but it cooled down quite a bit by sunset.

Marine layer not as deep this morning, but the inversion is stronger, which should result in a more typical clearing pattern where beaches stay cloudy.

 

Looks like a stronger ridge is possible for next weekend.

There's the usual early evening cooling. Because of the orientation of mountain range/ foothills onshore wind is often weak here but you can feel the cool marine air pushing inland as stratus forms at the coastline.

Low clouds came in before sunset yesterday, but the day was warm and breezy. There is now a slight chance of thunderstorms in the mountains and deserts for today.

Inversion must be super strong this morning as things are very slowly brightening up towards the east. Marine layer only reached the western edge of the Inland Empire.

This is interesting and a bit surprising to me. For example I figured Texas would record wide-spread triple-digit temps every summer. Higher dew points can suppress heat but it feels miserable nonetheless.

Catalina Eddy must have come back to life, as the low clouds are already pushing inland.

Foothill Ranch crashed from 78 F to 65 F in less than 2 hours and it is still crashing.

That Catalina Eddy must have really cranked up. It felt colder at 4:40 PM than it did at 7:30 AM this morning. That south wind was blowing like crazy.

When the wind continues to blow strongly after dark, you know the eddy must be really strong. Normally the breeze would die down after sunset.

 

Julian also had a wild ride today for their temperatures.

Looking at the high and low for today, looked like a average late May day. No sign of the wild roller coaster ride in temperatures today.

Drizzle fell overnight. If you don't like roller coaster temperatures, the place to be is the beach, where Del Mar Beach highs have ranged from 62 F to 64 F since May 6. In May and June a warm beach day is in the "so you're telling me there's a chance ... Yes" category, for those who are optimistic.

I'm surprised most of Nebraska isn't in the 95-100 category. Seems like we hit that at least a few times a year. Hell, we've already broken 95 3 or 4 times this year, and 100 once.

Even though the rain total for the month is quite insignificant it is great to have so many rain days.
