Nice thunderclouds over the mountains. A light breeze has got rid of the smoky smell for now.

Revised today's minimum to 82F [temp at 11:59PM]. Down 2 degrees from this morning's low. This happens regularly esp during trending onshore flow. Dewpoints have lowered to comfortable levels inland [under 60°].

I think today will actually be warmer than yesterday in Santa Maria. It's 84F right now and the highest temp so far is 85F just like yesterday.

I was surprised that minimums remained so warm since skies were mostly clear overnight. NWS_LA stated that high dew points were responsible but many areas were near and/or under 60°.

The only upside to the heat may be the mt showers, particularly in San Bernardino county. Baldwin Lake received 1.27 yesterday and 0.20 today.

Its currently 81F with a dp of 48 in Santa Maria. Why is the air so dry for a monsoonal moisture event in Central Coast? Its usually somewhat muggy when it comes up here, (DP in the low 60's)

I am ready for some cooler weather! This has been way too hot for a start to summer.

This pattern is more reminiscent of early to mid September.

The clouds became quite thick today, providing some relief from the heat. Phoenix got a big thunderstorm and the remains of that are headed our way.

Easterly wave delivering monsoon showers and dust storms across the desert; hopefully some of the moisture will propagate into coastal sections over the next several days. Yesterday the sky included dust particles you could see in the higher levels. Quite humid by California standards [upper 60's-low 70 dew points]. It did cool down enough for less overnight air conditioning.

Less debris clouds this morning may have helped lower minimum a bit and could help convective activity later today.  Very humid.

Don't see how dewpoints are dropping into the 50s during the middle of the day when the whole day feels muggy. It would suggest the mugginess is coming more from marine layer/above normal SSTs rather than monsoonal moisture, but strong monsoonal flow also seems to stop any upwelling on the coast, which helps to raise SSTs.

By California standard the weather hasn't been boring. Mt thunderstorms each afternoon, cumulonimbus/ altocumulus clouds, high dewpoints/ temps.

The low dropped below 70F for first time since July 5.

July 2006 comes to mind considering model guidance. 24 days 90°+/ 14 nights 70°+ produced the warmest historic mean [83°] here. Semi-permanent ridging nearly coast to coast https://en.wikipedia...rican_heat_wave
