Average high of 94.1 for July edges out August 2012's 93.9 for hottest monthly maximum average ever.

 

Average low of 68.1 makes for an overall average of 81.1, which very narrowly edges out July 2006 for second hottest month ever.

Aside from 3 days of average maximums [upper 80's] it has been 25 consecutive days of 90+ maximums.  Without looking up historic data, it seems like this stretch of hot weather is unusual.  On the other hand, July/ August/ September normally are between 87-89° so days in the 90's aren't out of the ordinary.

It's a cool 51F right now, likely due to the cooler than average ssts on the Central Coast. No stratus clouds and fog this morning either.

Amazing how much contrast the water temperatures are north and south of Pt. Conception! The water is quite chilly here while its basically bathwater LA County Southward.

Weird day in SM, The forecast high today was 88F but it only went up to 72F. I also went to Santa Barbara this afternoon, boy it was super humid! The dew point was as high as 68F!

I can relate -- I also tend to stay away when politics overshadows serious weather discussion.

 

Right, it is abundantly clear that a significant number of posters on the Weather Forums share anti-science illusions about long-term climate. It's akin to being in a classroom of people who resent knowledge with inexplicable bias. I'm a weather groupie w/ no background in meteorology and frankly a bit lazy negotiating model updates/ numeric weather prediction. Dr. Swain's blog on California weather is a preferred site. I've participated on Weather Forums [and it's antecedent labels] for well over 10 years but life is too short to more than casually associate with agnostics in my opinion.

Lots of smoke here, but it's high up and not stinky. Apparently some inversion layer is capping it.

Despise the below avg water temps north of point conception, the marine layer has been very spotty this month so far and only impacting the beaches. The highs been up and down so far and the lows have cooled as well. Much different compared to Socal is experiencing.

The bight looks like it's on fire in the map. We need some northwest winds. Weak eddy with a strong 4 corners high is ideal for warming up the bight.

Not as much smoke today, though yesterday with thick monsoon clouds and nearby thunderstorms in addition to the thick smoke things looked apocalyptic. It was like a reddish-brown version of June Gloom.

The nights have been much more comfortable here in Orange the last couple of days, and the lows have been in the lower 60's on the north side of my house, which means that the air is slightly drier now than it was earlier in the month.
