43 with light rain here... and getting windy.

Looks like it will be snowing here for a couple hours this evening.

NWS going for about 1-3" of snow here overnight into the morning. I'd say 1" is a safe bet right now. How much are you guys expecting?

No idea... I never pay attention to the NWS forecast.    I would rather just look at the same models that they are using.

The c-zone is probably going to slip south over my area between 6-10 p.m. but its always a wild card.   It looks very energetic with such strong flow aloft.   This is system is pretty dry but that does not matter much with very strong lift in the c-zone.    There will be a sharp cut-off on both sides.    I would not rule out 6 inches here if it parks itself over the I-90 corridor.   Or the strong SW flow could keep it just to the north but that is looking more doubtful now based on the ECMWF, WRF, and latest HRRR runs.

Here is the latest HRRR for 8 p.m.

That is directly over my area.

Happy Easter to everybody!

The 00z EURO shows the potential for a Sou'wester next weekend as a deep area of low pressure strengthens as it takes the classic path approaching the PNW coastline. Right now it's showing major category 3 hurricane wind gusts for the southern Oregon coast. We will need to keep a close eye on this because this could be potentially devastating.

You can go outside when it’s raining.

I find it more enjoyable when I'm not trying to protect myself from wind chill/pneumonia/hypothermia with layers of clothing... 70 is more conducive to that than 45...

I know you have all been waiting for my March stats so here they are: ave temp = 41.8F, 17 days 32F or lower, total precipitation = 6.40”, total snow= 3.0”. Summary = a cool and wet March. I own a Subaru Outback with heated, not cooled seats but with the highly desired “puddle lights”.

Gonna have to leave the car at home soon. Gas will be pushing 6 bucks a gallon soon up here.

That's one nice thing about living in the city, I walk to work and live up the street from a grocery store. The models haven't backed down on the rain events this week, looks like an impressive stretch for April. Currently 49F and sunny here, could be some convection this afternoon.

Why the hell is it so expensive up there?

You know the old saying, April showers bring May flowers. We will get more than showers though.

I thought it was, April showers bring May showers, which bring June showers til the 4th of July.

Free health care for all.  :)

Yep, I've always heard gas is $6-8 a gallon in Europe too. They tax the hell out of it.

There has to be some way to circumvent that problem. I’ll bet you there are a slew of gov’t subsidies that could be eliminated, but they’d rather tax the crap out of the working population instead.

Your area was the exception. Was a drier than normal month most lowland locations.

Yeah... and now its going to rain for 2 weeks straight and probably more.  Which will completely nullify any dry weather in March.

Here comes the head fake. Or, the start of it, expedited by the Niño-esque short term tropical forcing constructively interfering with the downwelling OKW/heat release.

cdas-sflux_ssta7diff_global_1.png

Complications are afoot, though. Starting in the middle of April the tropical forcing returns to a Niña state, which depending on the amplitude/period of the wave, could significantly dampen the OKW and accelerate the heat release/backcycle.
