Wide c-zone just to my north and appears to be heading east and not south for now.   That could easily change a little later... and I expect that it will.

Currently 43 here.

Here comes the head fake. Or, the start of it, expedited by the Niño-esque short term tropical forcing constructively interfering with the downwelling OKW/heat release.

cdas-sflux_ssta7diff_global_1.png

Complications are afoot, though. Starting in the middle of April the tropical forcing returns to a Niña state, which depending on the amplitude/period of the wave, could significantly dampen the OKW and accelerate the heat release/backcycle.

Is the backcycle an electric, manual or a hybrid?

Looks like SEA ended up with 50/43 today... although that low might drop a little.

38 here now with a c-zone just to the north.   It is now showing signs of moving south though.   If it arrives... it will drop to 32.5 with snow in about 5 minutes here based on past experience.

Just got a loud crack of thunder and some pretty heavy, pea sized hail for about 10 minutes here in downtown Seattle. Been quite a while since I've seen lightning within the city limits!

Absolutely dumping snow in North Bend.   My son just got home and said it was a white out down there... could not see the road and it was snowing incredibly hard.   Its actually not snowing as hard up here yet.    Heaviest snow he said he has seen down there since he started driving last year.

Just dumping here now... real fine pellets but piling up very fast.

You might be making a run towards my seasonal total!

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

I would have to add it up again.   Pretty sure you beat me.   You had 6 times as much as my area in February.  :)

Hope its winding down now. WRF does not show any more precip here after 11 p.m. all the way through tomorrow.

At least 3 inches of snow here... maybe a little more. Snow should be ending very soon but its been coming down hard for the last 30 minutes with barely anything on the radar.

I believe the biggest snowfalls of the year here happened on Christmas morning and Easter night. Strange year.

So April 7 has been a pretty interesting weather day recently.

First we had the record smashing heat in 2016 with the 85 at PDX and 89 at Kelso.

Then a historic spring windstorm in 2017 with the 55-60mph winds in the Portland area and northern Willamette Valley.

Now it's looking like lightning may strike twice and another major storm could be on the way this week on the 7th. Models all develop a pretty powerful system with a strong jet streak there off the OR coast. Pretty good bet that puppy produces some damaging wind and/or impressive rain totals somewhere.

Ya. I've been following that potential since Wednesday night/Thursday. It's just real nice to have something to watch on the models and I have modest confidence on this right now that somewhere between Bellingham and Red Bluff sees gusts at/above 50mph.

It was 32 when the snow and graupel was falling... went up to 33 when it stopped and 34 now.

The roads are a mess... schools are 2 hours late.   This has to be the most dense 3 inches of snow I have ever seen.   Its really slick underneath as well and now its even heavier than last night because its above freezing.   Just tried to drive out and was spinning away on a flat stretch which never happens with 3 inches of regular snow.

Yeah must be because of the grapuel. Sounds like a mess...

Some more snow falling here now, about a 1/3" or so on the ground. Just straight snow and 31 degrees so I don't anticipate any issues on the roads.

My son was just back there again this past weekend for another tour of MSU and to meet up with various professors and directors.  Sounds like the weather was pretty nice when he got there, cold cloudy and windy Friday, then Saturday they moved over to the Flint Creek valley for his great grandmother's 97th birthday party, and the temp was down to 11. Then I think it warmed up to freezing on Sunday when he flew home....All I could say was....."that is but a small taste of what you will experience the next 4 years....."

Looks like he is all set to go there, this trip finalized his decision.  He will be back in late June for freshman orientation, and then we will move him out there in mid-August as an Environmental Engineering major/bass drummer in the marching band

Back to the topic of weather, I guess this winter has been a bad one on the family ranch, as they have lost a lot of calves.  My wife's uncle and cousin have been having to watch the herd pretty much around the clock and as soon as a calf is born, scoop it up and get it into a barn to keep it warm.  The ranch is not included in the pictures you attached, hopefully this means the storm is passing to the east of them....still sucks for the ranchers who will get hit, as they are all dealing with the same stuff my wife's family is....
