July 2018 Weather in the Pacific Northwest

Recommended Posts

This is begging for a deweycastic remark.

Its true though.   We could be well below normal for rainfall all summer but if it was also a cloudy, cool marine layer fest then it would not dry out much at all here.

That is exactly what happened in May and June this year.

July is another story.

87 at SEA on the hour at 3... same as yesterday.

It was pretty obvious the marine layer wasn’t going to make it in beyond the immediate coastal gaps today.

Mid-80s in Whitefish this afternoon. We swam in the lake. Supposed to cool to the upper 70s to around 80 Thursday and Friday. Lows in the upper 40s to around 50 throughout.

That is literally where we just were. Surprised we weren’t on camera. Creeper!

Tim has actually been following you on camera for years.

Are you going to Glacier Natl Park?

Just wanted to see what it looked like there after you mentioned it since I checked that camera so often last summer.    They moved it to a new location too... I like it.

Til mid August then I am going up to OHSU for brain surgery. Then recovering in Monmouth for a month or two, then moving to Springfield. I will miss out on 2008-style madness but I will get to enjoy 1969 redux whenever it happens again.

I missed this earlier. Good luck with the surgery man.

Thanks. I'll be looking forward to Phil's Phall Phorecast while I'm in the hospital.

Very true.

And yes, we are heading to the park tomorrow. Hiking near Logan Pass. Should be beautiful as always.

Is that near the continental divide triple point?

Yup. Triple Divide peak is just a little south of the pass.

The water on the east side of Logan Pass eventually ends up in the Arctic Ocean by way of Hudson Bay. I always find that mind blowing.

A lot of people struggle with picturing water flowing north, for some reason.

A forum for the end of the world.

It's crazy enough to me how even Minnesota and North Dakota have rivers that flow north to the Hudson Bay so all the way from Glacier NP is indeed a fascinating aspect of North American topography.

Nah, just messing with you. ;)

I was gonna say. The Willamette River flows north and no one really bats an eye.

I think it has more to do with the fact that ~95% of rivers in the lower 48 end up in the Pacific or the Atlantic. Driving somewhere this far south that is part of the Arctic Ocean drainage is kind of cool.

Another official heatwave for PDX and many other locations today! 3rd one of the month for PDX. The latest EURO and GFS model runs show we are saving the best for last as temperatures get into the triple digits this week. Here is what the 18z GFS shows this weekend. I hope everybody is enjoying the sun!

91 for the high at SEA... 1 degree warmer than yesterday.

I wasn’t sure if today was going to quite make it to 90 today. If it’s going to be hot might as well try to get some more records like the 90+ for 5 straight days which SEA has never done. I think 4 straight days has only been done 1-2 times. 2 days down 3 to go.

Been driving through the entire state of Montana twice each summer for 15 years. Brown and smoky is the most common conditions we have observed.

Looks like a decent chance you guys get a sub 90 in there somewhere late in the week.

I’m finding that the Geothermal system in our new house does great with keeping the house at a steady 72!

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

SEA actually did hit 5 straight back on July 1-5, 2015.

6-7 is currently looking possible there, though.
