The current suspicions revolve around the possibility that someone inside the Solar Observatory was spying on the military complex below the Sacremento Mts. In New Mex. on behalf of China. However the FBI shut it down which usually has civilian authority, not any US Military 'cop' group. The Sherriff of Ortega Co. was told to secure the area and shut the post office but was not told why.

The Observatory is still shut down tonight as it the Post Office. Residents must drive 60 miles for their mail.

That's pretty crazy.

I'm glad you share this stuff. I'd never know it otherwise.

Yeah, this is pretty odd. If it's due to national security, I understand, but they could say so and leave it there.
There are some good investigative reporters on the his and when I find some reason, I'll post it.

The fact that the Observatory over looks military sites says volumes. We'll see if that's the connection and threat. There's tons of speculation out there from aliens, to a solar kill shot, to a spy ring. Time will tell. Hopefully there will be a leaker. Seem to be a lot of those lately.

After a week it's still in lock down. Not even so much as a leak.

So, here's what's being said.

The group that manages the facility announced on the observatory’s Facebook page Sunday that it had been “cooperating with an on-going law enforcement investigation of criminal activity that occurred at Sacramento Peak.”

During that time, said the statement from the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy (AURA), “we became concerned that a suspect in the investigation potentially posed a threat to the safety of local staff and residents. For this reason, AURA temporarily vacated the facility and ceased science activities at this location.”

Yeah. I dont believe it at all. You don't do things in that manner for cautionary reasons.

What about the guy(s) who were supposedly going to commit this act? Heard nothing about them. That would be interesting news, I would think.

“The windows of houses in Sunspot around the Solar Observatory are still boarded up with sheets of wood, no one is around, like a ghost town. And I talked with one person today at the observatory who told me they had signed a non-disclosure form (NDA) and that they were compensated with enough money to where they would not want to talk about what has happened.”

– Paul M., Drone Pilot from Alamagordo, NM, visited NSO, September 17, 2018

Found this on Earthfiles. They usually quote people accurately.
I hope to know more tomorrow.

Somethings just out of whack.

Below is a Sept. 17 information release. Note the first 5 paragraphs.
They are not very forthcoming, but it's clear that something quite serious is going on that is requiring time to resolve. Evacuation and Shuttered windows in houses in the previous post is an odd reaction.

L.M. Howe seems to be the only reporter getting what little there is out there to report.

Still not much.

UPDATE September 20, 2018: Alamogordo’s Otero County Sheriff Benny House told El Paso ABC-TV:  “I think it’s chicken sh– the way the FBI handled it.  Is there a bomb threat? Is there an active shooter? Is it chemical? We need to know so we know what kind of man power to send up there, and without knowing, it’s dangerous for everybody. We’ve asked and asked (the FBI) and they will not tell us anything.”

Now on September 20, 2018, comes the shocking revelation that “a federal search warrant reveals that Sunspot Solar Observatory was shut down as FBI agents conducted computer forensic searches for child pornography,” reported by KTSM-TV Channel 9, September 20, 2018

Also see important questions about truth of child pornography explanation in Earthfiles Report:

KTSM-TV reports that “The source of child pornography was traced to an IP address used at the observatory and a source within the building observed a computer with ‘not good’ images on it, the warrant states.” The federal court documents state that Wifi and a personal laptop in the National Solar Observatory were used to download child pornography.  Stay tuned here for link to federal court document.

That is still just nuts. Is it just going from story to story or what? Something is truly up there. The houses and all that stuff is a clue that it wasn't kiddie porn.

It's possible it's a security leak of some kind dealing with the base not far away.
The FBI would investigate any American doing anything that's illegal in terms of listening into communications, or photo imaging.
Any illegal activity. The black helicopters bug me, but I understand clearing the place out. I understand some scientists are back at work.

This whole thing is weird.  Child porn?  really? They needed to use up FBI resources and a blackhawk helicopter for that?  Couldn't local law enforcement have handled that?  Do they always send in the FBI everytime child porn is involved?  Hmmm...  Does this observatory monitor sunspots specifically?

As of today, there is still yellow tape up and the post office and house (one and the same) are vacated.

Locals say at the closure, there was FBI, black helicopter, and work crews on area towers.

I had heard that on the website Watts Up With That, that there was a story on the closure being about the possibility of Chinese spying from the observatory.

The observatory overlooks Holloman AFB and White Sands.  So, closure would be logical if this was under investigation.

Considering the amount of technology and intellectual property stolen from the US by China, it makes a lot of sense.

I'll just keep reading till I know something over time.

Yup.

I doubt we'll ever know much. But as they had crews on communication towers, my money is on foreign spying considering Holloman is in the valley with White Sands. I'm glad they stepped in. We're losing so much intelligence and research to them as it is.
