Michael decided to strengthen at the worst possible time - right before landfall. Eyewall is about 25-30 miles away from land now.

Still funny how TWC can make themselves look silly just ahead of a strong cat4 landfall. The reporter seemed seriously impressed by how flags were flapping in the winds.

And the rattling fence  :P

We would have fir trees down everywhere with that condition here! Insane

Yeah that would flattened forests here.

Reading that gusts could hit 175 mph! Heading NNE still. PC; particularly the east side, might make into the left side of the eye if it doesn't turn much.

This guy reporting major damage and flooding near the base and in Mexico Beach. Sounds like he just got out of there with his life with tornadoes crossing in front of him.

Wow, Michael is still strengthening.

Pressure still falling with #Michael- a drop shows 922 mb and 34 kt of wind- 919 mb or so. Would be the 3rd deepest in terms of pressure to hit the US - lower than even Katrina or Andrew. Only Camille and Labor Day 35 were lower...

Wouldn’t be fun without overplayed drama on the news! I’m glad their there to give some good quality shots and hoping their taking precautions to protect themselves. Just takes one wrong windgust with some derbies to end it all.

It does encourage others [weather nerds] to not flee

Is there much evidence that we’ve seen an increase in major landfalling hurricanes in the US? Something like 5 of the 7 strongest storms to hit Florida were pre 1960.

Long history of hurricanes in Florida
