The Euro ensemble looks relatively active thru the long range.

Maybe we can build something of a snow pack.

Are late snow/ski seasons a bad omen?

Did not make it down today. My brother in law had his 40th birthday party and then my wife had to pick up a night shift, so the 7:30 kickoff didn't work. Listened to the game on the radio sounded like a really good game.

It isn't really a late season yet. The resorts always hope to be open by Thanksgiving, but generally it is a tossup if they are able to or not. If we are open by sometimes in the first week of December I wouldn't call it a super late start.

I see Pendleton and Hermiston are into the mid-20s already this evening. Nice radiational cooling going on with the dry airmass. Burns headed for the single digits at 14 currently.

Relatively mild but the mean pressure center in the east pacific is shifted far enough east that we would likely remain active. Precip near to slightly above normal

The EPS absolutely torches almost all of Canada at the 850mb level

Should get a good cold pool going over there the next 2-3 days. Probably much cooler in PDX and the valley as well as a gap wind develops and inversions set in down south.

Sunset/moonrise over Mt. Jefferson early this evening (a little after 4pm). From French Creek Ridge north of Detroit.

Stunning. It was a beautiful day. Had a great view of Jefferson today driving back towards Salem on Hwy 22 from Grand Rhonde. This can be one of the best times of year to enjoy the outdoors, weather permitting, no crowds on the trails.

Tropical Tidbits is still not updating... last run available is from yesterday morning.

Using WB... it appears that the models have locked in a big storm for Thanksgiving evening into Friday and then it calms down again.

The 00Z EPS shows an active storm track through the southern US in typical Nino fashion... without an actual Nino in place.

I'll bet southern California and Arizona end up being pretty calm.

I just realized that about Tropical tidbits, when I posted last night it was actually the 12z I was seeing.

Looks like the next trimonthly value should be above +0.5C.

Also, and I hope someone will correct me if I’m wrong, but I see the AAM is forecast to go sky high. I believe this generally coincides with a stronger and southward displaced subtropical jet

Maybe. Because the 0z gem updated overnight but the GFS has not. So it seems a bit spotty

Yep... 12Z GFS is not updating yet on there and it starts running at 7:30.

Oh yeah. We only saw one other group the whole day. The wind wasn’t too bad, considering we were on a high ridge, but the ground was frozen hard in many spots.

Took some gravel backroads to the Phantom Bridge after the hike. Very cool natural rock arch with views of Hood, Jefferson and the Three Sisters. Have you had a chance to check that one out.
