Of course this will not transpire- it's like eye candy for someone like myself that likes bitter cold - but for the record the coldest DSM has ever been - back when they took the official obs in the DSM River Valley  was Jan 5th 1884 at -30F. The -26F in Feb of 96' is the closest it has come sense and in my mind should be considered the record since the CAA had to pass over urban areas.gfs_T2m_ncus_46.png

Overnight LR data, off both the JMA Weeklies/Monthlies, are as good as it gets for the continuation of the wrath of Ol' Man Winter and the Polar Vortex!  Both are poised to dominate the wx pattern across the eastern 2/3rds of the nation for the foreseeable future.  My goodness, this pattern may lock and rock for weeks on end.  The amount of overwhelming data illustrating this pattern has to have some legs is eye opening.  I'll say it right now, but this may end up being one of those legendary Winters we all have been patiently waiting for.  I don't have time right now as I'm heading out the door to hit the gym, but I'll try to put together a LR post sometime this morning or evening.

They are good in covering Winterstorms and Hurricanes. (except for that time when Mike Seidel overreacted w the wind in a live Hurricane report). Otherwise, they are not popular in just watching their channel. Back years ago, they were when better Meteorologists were there.

Been getting flurries here in Fargo for the past couple hours. 3°F.

This has been an abysmal year for here. 19.7" is the season total so far. Of that, roughly 10" came from one system in December, and another 7" came in October and early November. There are patches of bare ground here. I'd be pissed if I lived here.

All Models continue to be relatively subdued with tonight’s light snow or snowshwers. Looks like a coating to an inch at the most here IMBY. Maybe a little more towards the MI/Ohio border.

Still punting the cold and snow football out 2 weeks at a time after getting within 2 days of go time. Tired of it.

Did you get any appreciable snow yet?

FWIW: Not much in my area since November. Hopefully, that is about to change drastically and break this snow drought.

My temp forecast keeps rising by the hour for next week.  Now the storm next week might cut?

Keep in mind that next week's "storm" would be the Dec1-2 system that was a really strong Low and rained on us. I know it's Jan now, but I'm not getting my hopes up on that one. You stand a much better shot up there. I'd just like to keep my long awaited snow for more than half a week, but I didn't in Nov so who's to say it can't/won't happen again?

Yep, GFS and CMC both have the low cutting across Iowa with 30s and light rain along the track.

It may now be upper 20s for the game in Kansas City on Sunday.  The cold dome has really backed off down there.
