Snowshoe
Nice round of fluffy snow globe type snow this morning ahead of the arctic front. Walked the dog for a bit longer because she won't want to be outside this afternoon. Sitting near the high temp right now and should begin falling the rest of today. Strong wording by the NWS GRB for next weeks arctic outbreak. Behind this system, there is a possibility of an even more severearctic outbreak by the middle of next week. Some of the coldestair at 850mb across North America will be across the western GreatLakes. The ECMWF surface temperatures off the model only indicatedtemperatures in the teens below zero at 18z Wednesday. ECMWFnumerical guidance indicated highs in the single digits belowzero, although these values that far out are weighted towardclimatology. The arctic outbreak for the middle of next weekcould be one of the most severe in several years. Stay tuned! 3 Quote WISCONSIN RAPIDS Wisconsin

Stacsh
00z Euro is showing multiple weak disturbances through Noon on Sun around the area that may lay down a couple inches before the bigger Clipper arrives late Sun-Mon. I'm sure we'll have a lot of happy faces in MI. Gosh, the signal for some nasty lake streamers is the real deal. Come to think of it, I remember back in Jan '14 we had similar disturbances out ahead of the Arctic Attacks which brought some very intense instability snow showers. The coming few days could end up transpiring in a similar fashion. I won't be surprised if some peeps locally experience some intense snow showers along the arctic fronts outside of the snow belts. I'm going to be buried.

hlcater
With the bigger clipper and the arctic outbreak next week, I haven't seen too much talk about the clipper tomorrow. Could drop a sneaky 1-2" across much of E IA and N IL. Hardly as noteworthy as whats up ahead, but the unique thing this system has going for it is the extremely cold air it has to work with. Could be looking at ratios of 20-25:1. Snow in the single digits, THAT's winter. Also noting the strange looking DGZ on this sounding. Since the surface layer is a part of the -12 to -18c zone, it's technically in the DGZ? Though this could be the algorithm messing up, as a DGZ from 800 to 700mb seems more probable. http://soundings.pivotalweather.com/sounding_images/nam4km_2019012418_024_41.52--91.24.png Quote 2021-22 Snowfall: (Hiawatha) TOTAL: 10.2" (12/28: 3.0") (12/29: 0.8") (1/1: 6.4")
