Anti Marine Layer
It was briefly very, very windy here early this afternoon. Has calmed down to a standstill since, though. Onshore push
Anti Marine Layer
One day left in May and the high temperature in Downtown L.A. would need to be exactly 75 F tomorrow for the monthly average high to be 70.00 F. Otherwise we average below that, of course.
Anti Marine Layer
Forecast high for Downtown L.A. is 73 F, which is 2 degrees shy of what is needed to keep the monthly average high 70 F or higher. It could always be a few degrees lower or higher. Pretty likely though it will be the 22nd May since 1877 with the average high below 70. We'll know by sunset today. The coolest May in 42 years is pretty much a given as it's already too warm this morning to average cooler than 69.16 F for the month (1946) and we'd need to reach the 80s to get it above 70.39 (1999). Anti Marine Layer
With slower clearing and a deeper marine layer, it is quite unlikely that Downtown L.A. will make it to 75 F today, but there could always be surprises as nothing has been usual this May. Tomorrow May Gray becomes June Gloom.
Anti Marine Layer
Marine layer clouds clinging tenaciously to the beaches this afternoon and temperatures have cooled down even inland. There's also some pretty intense thunderstorm activity over southern Nevada.
Anti Marine Layer
Lovely how San Diego finished the month only 0.2 below normal while the inland areas were more than 4.0 below normal. It is also now official that Downtown L.A. averaged at 69.90 F for the high, which is below 70.00 F for the 22nd time since 1877.
Anti Marine Layer
The post here shows where May 2019 ranks in history. It also has a link to an interesting article. Less than 3 hours until May Gray becomes June Gloom.
Anti Marine Layer
June Gloom is officially here right on schedule for the first day of June.
Anti Marine Layer
There was some drizzle this morning and chances of seeing any sun today are pretty much near 0.
Reg
Deep marine layer here overnight and into mid-morning, but mostly sunny otherwise.
Reg
Temecula's average high for May 2019 was only 71.0 F, which was much lower than April's 75.9 F and was also the coolest average high for May since at least 1999 there (beating out May 2011's avg high of 73.7 F). As a whole, May 2011 was still just barely cooler at 60.1 F, as opposed to this month's 60.4 F in Temecula. This was one of the only times May was actually cooler than April in Temecula (April 2019 was 61.9 F in Temecula versus May's 60.4 F). Reg
My weather station graph update: Bit of a backwards pattern from April to May there.
Anti Marine Layer
They forgot to mention drizzle in the forecast this morning. How foolish of them.
Anti Marine Layer
It's not just drizzle, it's light RAIN. 3rd Sunday in a row now with rain here. 0.04" so far.
Anti Marine Layer
Up to 0.05" now. Back in our drought days, this used to be considered a decent storm. So May Gray has become June Gloom and Mayuary has become Junuary.
Anti Marine Layer
Even the Inland Empire is slow to clear today. Cutoff lows suck the most because they usually deepen the marine layer without weakening the inversion.
Anti Marine Layer
If there wasn't any Four Corners High, summer would cease to exist in Southern California forever.
Anti Marine Layer
Two nearly identical days this weekend with June Gloom, drizzle or light rain in the morning, brighter skies in the afternoon but absolutely no sunshine. It got sort of warm mid afternoon today and I decided to roll up my jeans and stroll into the creek. It's a pretty place we have here in Lake Forest.

Anti Marine Layer
Foothill Ranch got 0.06" yesterday. Looks like the sun is finally trying to come out.
Anti Marine Layer
Yesterday and the day before Orange and L.A. counties had no sun, while San Diego County got some random clearing. Today L.A. and Orange County are ever so slowly clearing at a snail's pace, but looks like San Diego will not. So what changed. Possibly the cutoff low being further south over San Diego. Anti Marine Layer
I'd be very interested to know the last date that Southern California did not get any rain somewhere. Whether it be marine layer drizzle, late season Pacific storms, or thunderstorms over the mountains, I cannot remember the last day that none of these occurred. And BTW, the hills did not become green from the May rain. At least the February rain gave us some of the most beautiful wildflowers in years. Anti Marine Layer
Despite seeing the sun for the first time in June today, it was so hazy outside you could barely see the Santa Ana Mountains.
Anti Marine Layer
Low clouds returned before sunset but it was nice to get a few hours of sunshine today. Stayed pretty warm through about 6 PM.
Anti Marine Layer
Tonight they finally add a chance of drizzle for the forecast when they forgot to do so the past 3 nights.
Anti Marine Layer
A little bigger hole in the marine layer where the Santa Ana Mountains are this morning, but still very deep. A cutoff low is a weatherman's woe.
Anti Marine Layer
Clouds look to be breaking up about an hour earlier today than yesterday. Pretty pathetic ridge as marine layer is still 3000 ft. deep. Looks like the persistent blocking pattern of the last month or so could finally be ending by next week. That should hopefully bring better weather to all of the United States, as the same pattern that brought us "Mayuary" also caused many weeks of severe weather in the middle of the country. Anti Marine Layer
Low clouds pulled to within about 2 miles of the beach by early afternoon, then came back inland after 3 PM, and they are now once again pulling back towards the coast. Really strange.
Anti Marine Layer
83 in Julian today, with the top of the deep freeze just 1000 ft below. Inversion must have been super strong.
Anti Marine Layer
Yawn, a boring June Gloom pattern has set in. No more anomalous Pacific storms, and no major heat waves in the forecast, so California will need to take whatever it can get from the drizzle and this topic will go into hibernation. Anti Marine Layer
Inversion was 13 C this morning. Finally some typical early June weather. Much of May had no inversion or a very weak one, favorable for reverse clearing.

Anti Marine Layer
Marine layer is all the way down to Cabo San Lucas this morning. Forecast high is 74 F. Normal high is 88 F. Anti Marine Layer
Low clouds cleared to near the coast in San Diego County, but then came roaring back in with a vengeance. There is an obvious eddy as well.
