The high humidity this evening is reducing the effectiveness of my window A/C unit, which is meant to operate in dry/low humidity conditions.

Much cooler tonight than it has been in quite a while. Low clouds are already pushing in.

Cooler tonight/early this morning here as well, down to 63F right now. Most of the last few nights struggled to dip below 70F.

Sea surface temperatures must have dropped significantly. Mornings have not been this cool since probably last June.

LAX won't reach 70 F today and it was surprisingly mild today in Irvine with a nice cool breeze.

It's been a while since the Inland Empire has seen a marine layer even though just about every morning here has been cloudy this summer.

There's quite a large upper low moving inland over Nor Cal and the PNW.

Monsoon is supposed to dry out even in Flagstaff. Looks like our persistent troughing pattern of the past winter and spring will be returning.

Lots of thunder and rain in Redding last night for a total of 1.01" there so far. Down here though weather continues to be boring as usual. Surprisingly the trough has not deepened the marine layer at all.

Nice to finally have a nice stretch of below 100F days here. It dipped below 60F last night for the first time in a month.

As usual nothing interesting happened today and nothing exciting is expected for the weather for the next 7 days. The days are getting shorter, however.

Mostly sunny days in Flagstaff for most of the next week. Wherefore art thou monsoon?

 

We did have some monsoon activity back in July, so it isn't completely absent this summer like it was in 2008 and 2009. So far this decade, every summer has had some level of monsoon-related activity affect Southern California, some years more than others. 2012 and 2016 were probably the least active summers here this decade, however even those had a little bit of activity. Summers of 2008 and 2009 both had absolutely none whatsoever.

 

Barely managed to break 90F these last two days here. Feels very cool.

82 in Santa Maria and 64F in VAFB. Quite the microclimate!

It's still 81F past 3pm, yet the beaches 12-14 miles away have been socked in all day by the marine layer stratus clouds. The onshore flow has been really weak the past couple days in Santa Maria.

The official high today was 84F which was warmer than expected

Dense fog again this morning as the marine layer has been more persistent than usual this summer. Normally you would get some days that start out sunny by this time of year.

As has been the case most of this summer, the marine layer is preventing any intense heat within about 10 miles of the coast. Definitely a change from last year.

 

Hoping to see a little bit of monsoon activity before we go into fall.

It was another warmer than expected day again with the high today of 84F and that was even with the dense fog early this morning had very little moderating effect.

Sunrise this morning at 6:12 AM, which is about the same as November 4, the first Monday back to Standard Time. Sunset tonight is 7:38 PM and will be 4:55 PM on November 4. Anyone looking forward to November?
