Not overly hot today with an early stratus intrusion this evening. Looks to be similar for the weekend.

Low clouds could make it into parts of the Inland Empire tonight. That would be the first time in quite a while.

The Santa Maria Valley is still socked in with the marine layer after 10am. Feels more like May or June rather than Mid August.

Sea surface temperatures are below normal off the Southern California coast and well above normal for the PNW.

The sun didn't come out until 12:30 today and yet it still went up to a warm 76F.

We have a bar at our pool every Sunday and it brings a large crowd of people who get drunker and drunker as the afternoon goes on. Other days there's not many people.

There was some fog a few miles away in front of the coastal foothills this morning. The tops of the clouds were actually lower than the top of the hills.

Another warm evening after a hot day here while the PNW is getting their first "fall" storm system. Looks like this trough will have little effect here except to deepen the marine layer a little bit. Meteorological summer is almost over. We are losing a significant amount of daylight each day.

Significant smoke from the wildfire in Camp Pendleton affecting us here again today, stinging eyes and the like.

Much cooler today than yesterday, with an early low cloud return likely this evening.

Tucson is getting some monsoon activity now with thunderstorms while Flagstaff stays dry.

Flagstaff is at a ridiculously low 1.02" so far for this monsoon season which starts June 15 every year. In 2009, they got only 2.87", which is the driest in the 2008-2019 period. They could end off drier than that this year. The monsoon season ends September 30, so there's still some time.

11 degrees cooler at 9 PM today than yesterday in Fullerton.

That bar graph confirms my findings about the summers of 2008 and 2009 being utterly lackluster.

Unusual damp drizzly morning with mild temperatures in the low 60's.

Some areas of the Inland Empire are slower to clear than the San Diego coast this morning. Sunshine looks unlikely for Catalina Island today.

Southeast eddy flow today pulled clouds off shore despite a deep marine layer. When will we see some southeast monsoon flow?

Much less low clouds this morning compared to yesterday morning. They did not make it onshore here.

Persistent troughing over the PNW may be keeping the monsoons at bay, even in Arizona. So far it is the driest monsoon season to date on record in Flagstaff. I was there for a week once in July and there was thunder every day.

 

2010 had stronger troughing but Flagstaff got much more rain that year compared to this year.
