Two 90+ days in a row here followed by a cold front, and not a single storm to show for it. Weak sauce.

The next 2 days look nice. Then the soup returns.

we use to do well with thunderstorms it's been its seems like after 2012 mother nature has went into an sleeping mode around here storm wise.I am a bit confused by it in a way as normally solar mins are some of our most active periolds this has been an strange solar min so far not sure what it means just yet down the road.

Enhanced risk for northern areas tomorrow. I’m in the slight risk, so close to the enhanced zone. Hoping for an overperformer.

We got a good one here..heavy gusts..deep thundering roar, heavy rain, etc. But downtown DC got mashed even harder. Swath of 70mph winds blasted right through there.

Hopefully one of these days the big core will strike here. Feels like it’s going to happen sooner rather than later given the odd luck we’ve had in recent years.

yeah that was an impressive bow line that moved through with the possable tornados that were in the noched part of the line.one of those c shape noches hit Howard county which is one of the tornado suspect locations.

It's been one crazy assed spring !
More to come I'm sure. Our lake is almost tipping over the spillway. They've opened the flood gates to go down river but If we get more rain.....it'll tip.

So boys? How's the US summer going to size up ?

The storms last night track just north of me another batch went just south of Dc but did make for quite a light show for an hour or so.Another round of strong thunderstorms possable this afternoon and tonight also LWX seems to be very bulless on tuesday.lwx put a specal wording out for todays threat most likey because of the cook outs and festivitys going on today don't want people to be fooled about the current calm nice weather as things could change quite quickly.

I have to say Phil this has been quite an active period for us thunderstorm wise this is a changes from the 2013-2018 period of over all lack of thunderstorm episodes this is certainly a different pattern then what we have been use to seeing over the last 5 years or so.

Let’s see if we can pull off a good one this week. Today will probably fail here, but I’m cautiously optimistic about tomorrow afternoon/evening.

Forecast from LWX is pretty bullish.

Today is a PA Special severe storm day bulk of the forceings today look to be to our north tommore those could be our day as a strong system and fronter boundry get closer into the reagion damaging winds likey the biggest threat tommore but could end up being a pretty decent event.the beginning of june looks to start out on a cool note with highs only in the 70s for a few data.which is a rarity for us this time of year.todays storm mode in pa are discrete supercells two tornado warning for a couple of the cells.tommore we are in the enhance zone as everything sifts south

Persistently warm summer temperatures in recent decades. Though it’s not unusual melting in the context of the late Holocene..it’s been melting back since the LIA terminates in the 1800s.

the front seemed to get stuck in Pa the storms were there but the models were way to fast in bring the front into the reagion in fact it looks like a day to fast as it looks like the front does not cross our reagion until tommore evening so once again The storms were in Pa mostly .maybe tommore we finally get that front to come down and we finlly get in on the action and hopefuly puts an end of this current hot streak.data still strong about a cool start to june with highs in the 70s for a few days next week

yeah same here that storm that formed out in front of the tornadic storm took the juice out of that one when it got here. But howard county has been a hot spot the last few weeks as another confermed tornado hit the county.Storms for what ever reason like to avoid you for some reason not sure what mother nature has against you Phil in joining the party.Kind of commercial how yesterday we had an enhanced risk and storms stuggeled to form. While today acted more like an enhanced day .

I have a sneaky feeling tomorrow could overperform here in the severe department. Potent cold front, timed ideally to the diurnal cycle, with insolation nearing the seasonal maximum.

This is the quasi-linear type of setup my location does well with, as opposed to the supercell/multicell clusters that tend to favor Parr’s ridge, the southern Piedmont, and the upper Tidal Potomac/Southern MD.

Not the best match to the Flag Day 1989 event, but it wouldn’t shock me if one of the storms goes off the rails as it approaches the Fall Line.

howard county and baltimore and harford countys also tend to do well with the supercells at least as of late the seacond tornado in a week time is pretty impressive for them!

Beautiful weather these last few days. It dropped to 25*F in Canaan Valley, WV this morning, just one degree short of the all-time record low for June.

We fell to 47*F here, lowest June temperature I can remember in ages. Highs in the low 70s yesterday felt like late October with the stiff NW wind ~ 30mph and dewpoints in the upper 30s. Mid/upper 70s today.

Of course, it’s all fleeting during the summer, and the soup returns tomorrow (though it’s not too bad yet). Soon cold fronts won’t even make it south of the Mason Dixon line, and will seldom do so until September.

Amazing weather over the last week. The last two days have been particularly ideal with sunny weather, low humidity, and highs in the upper 70’s. Such a rarity around these parts after Memorial Day.

Tomorrow looks potentially interesting. Coastal surface low skirts off the coast overnight bringing moderate to locally heavy stratiform rain overnight with E/NE surface flow resulting. Then, a very dynamic 500mb trough approaches tomorrow afternoon, right at peak heating, with surface moisture from the overnight rainfall evaporating into the strong speed shear and rock bottom 500mb heights and freezing levels. Insolation is the key.

I could easily see a low topped forced squall producing widespread 50-55mph winds (even if sub-severe). The question (in my mind) is how much insolation reaches the surface during the 11AM-3PM period, and how much work goes into evaporation/latent hearing relative to sensible heating of the lower boundary layer. We can sizzle quickly at this time of year, as the summer solstice is now merely 10 days away, so we’ll see!

Miserable humidity this AM. Condensation dripping from everything like niagara falls with clouds of mosquitoes billowing overhead. Haha.

Second consecutive day with a severe thunderstorm watch as well, but I’m not feeling it here today..E/SE of the Fall Line will probably score. Could be wrong though..these things are notoriously hard to predict.

Thursday evening I think could be very interesting, however. I like the setup..only question is coverage thanks to mid-level thermals/moisture (initially). But if any storm can really pop after 430pm..ka-boom.

Friday AM was interesting. Had a brief round of heavy, non-convective gusts come out of the mountains, one of which blasted through the trees and hurled a bunch of underdeveloped pine cones at the windows like missles..was much louder than I would have anticipated from such a thing, haha. Reached 42mph on my station but it felt stronger. Then it calmed down to 30-35mph for the remainder of the day.

The last two days have featured almost uninterrupted perfect weather, and I’ve been out enjoying it, hence my absence here. This evening will be the grand finale..so I think I’ll go for a run after sunset to take in the sea of fireflies before the heat and humidity returns tomorrow.

The cicadas just came out today. Heard one yesterday just before the downpour, but they were much more pronounced today.

Given the warm temperatures coming up over the next few weeks, I’m sure there will be a loud chorus ongoing by next weekend.

Microburst just blew through Martinsburg Airport.

Gust to 61mph out of blue with that storm.

Some crazy reports coming out of the WV panhandle from those microbursts today.

Blasted trees and structural damage. Has to be some hurricane force stuff in there. That s**t cold pooled all the way down here..had a few rumbles of thunder and 20mph breezes from W/NW along with some light rain.

Mercifully knocked the temp down from 96 to 80 over a period of ~ 50 minutes.

Lucky. They all jumped around me again.

Huge cumulonimbus towers, though. Some sprinkles and distant rumbles of thunder following a high of 95*F.

they were hardly moving yesterday clearly a classic case of very little if any flow to move the storms around had to literly wrait for them to rain them selfs out and fall apart if you got stuck under one yesterday.today looks like more movement but perhaps more of an severe risk added to the mix.
