As horrible as the GFS has been this year, the CMC has been in a world of its own each and every storm since it was created. 1 Quote Formerly *ahem*: LNK_Weather, TOL_Weather, FAR_Weather, MSP_Weather, IMoveALot_Weather. OKwx2k4
As much as you love winter you should move north if possible. If I ever had the opportunity, I'd like to move north one day. One thing I have always loved and hated, though, about my state is the challenge of being on such a fine line between the "fire and ice" at any season. Honestly, if I could somehow just not ever have 4 years of winter ever ever ever ever ever ever again...(did I mention ever freaking again? Not like the last 4! Crap no!!! I'll take ice over 4 years of that again!! At least ice is wintry!!).....like the last 4 miserable years, then I'll be content. If I've lived through 20 of the warmest winters of the modern era then I'm pretty sure I'll get to see the opposite side again. I'm good, but I'm just really ready for spring.

Tom
The current pattern we are in is directly related to the series of storms that hit the desert SW during the New Year holiday which slammed the mountains with copious amounts of snow. It's amazing to see the amount of snow which is being forecast in the mountains of AZ. Wish I was there to experience this next storm that is going to pummel the Payson area where I love to go hiking. The map below is suggesting 2-3 feet of snow from this next storm. I'm hoping to head out to AZ next month and I'm sure there will still be snow OTG.

The only snow I saw on radar came up from the south - hill country. Lol. All we've seen in North Tx has been cold damp weather. We won't refuse the rain, but hey, a Lookee-loo snow would have been a nice change. Grizzcoat
as of 6AM - KDSM was at 22.3" for the month of FEB. That is 2nd all time only behind 22.7" in 2008. It should be tied or broken -- even with some rain, with backside snows with the weekend system. Jan was 7th all time snowiest.. So back to back top 10 snowiest months with FEB probably #1 and an outside chance of FEB breaking into the top 10 coldest FEB's. Last time a month in Des Moines had a top 10 snowy month and cold, was ( I BELIEVE) DEC 2000. 6 Quote The two loudest sounds known to man: a gun that goes bang when it is supposed to go click and a gun that goes click when it is supposed to go bang. I saw a graphic somewhere that showed our snowfall each season since that winter, and I believe we've had 4 or 5 winters below 20" total for the whole winter. I also believe it showed we have had a pattern of 2 really bad winters and then a really good one, followed up by average one and then back to the 2 bad winters in a row. East Dubzz
Sort of off-topic, but I plan to go to a spotter training class this year. Was going to go years back, but I was running a little tight on time and wasn’t sure if I was at the right place, so I chickened out. Anyway, how many people on here have attended one or more of these classes? I actually took what is supposed to be a similar class on MetEd, but they don’t allow that to be used officially. Doesn’t seem too bad. Will be good learning for me too, as my severe weather knowledge is much less than my winter weather knowledge.
