Well, it's now Cedar Rapids' turn to get screwed by the mixing.  It is no longer really snowing.  It's more like halfway between snowflakes and sleet pellets.  It's killing our accumulation and, judging by the mix line continuing to surge north into CR, you can probably shave at least two inches off our snow total now.  It's always a struggle for CR to get a great storm 6-8+".  This one finally looked like one of them, but something had to go wrong.

My total is now 4.5".  Only 0.4" fell in the last 70 minutes.

season snowfall: 34.8"

'22-23: 30.2"      '21-22: 27.1"      '20-21: 52.5"      '19-20: 36.2"      '18-19: 50.2"      '17-18: 39.5"

Average snowfall: ~30"

This ice needs to stop. Snow is fine but hell, no one needs to go through these many ice storms so soon. Also, come on, I'm literally surrounded by WSW but my county is still in WWA. Must be late to update or something, I find that really odd. Either that or Wunderground didn't update yet.

Latest HRRR shows the sleet missing me by about ~10 miles or so. Gonna be real close. I somewhat trust it, because it seems to have a better handle on it now.

I definitely think we’re gonna get some sleet for a little while at least. Just have to hope it doesn’t last long enough to cut into totals too much.

Serious ice storm taking shape across N IL and wiil spread into southern Michigan and No.Indiana. This is what I was hoping would bit happen. Looks like Nam was right all along with the northern extent of ice

Just plain ol’ sleet pellets hitting my sky light. No real freezing rain at the moment. I’d gladly take sleet over freezing rain though.

DSM may not be in as bad as spot as I thought earlier today. About 3.5" snow with a nice band to the SW and slowly back building. NOW MOVE THROUGH NICE AND SLOOOOW.......  6" is not out of question -- and no worries with that d**n PL and FZRA. Just about 7" on the ground with a shot of first double digit snow depth in a LONG TiME! *** edit *** since JAN- but before that it was a long time...

The two loudest sounds known to man: a gun that goes bang when it is supposed to go click and a gun that goes click when it is supposed to go bang.

Sleet hitting the windows again. My new snowpack shrunk 1" and is down to 2.5" of crusty stuff! It would just as well go above freezing now to melt the ice off of everything before the big wind hits tomorrow. Maybe the most ice accrual we've had all winter. Trees are crackling in the wind. Sitting at 32° now.

I've gone back to sleet as well. Back end of the mix is probably 10 miles away. Only bad thing is, the back end of the heavier precip isn't far behind it. My folks on the north side of hiawatha just measured 6.1"

2021-22 Snowfall: (Hiawatha)

TOTAL: 10.2"

(12/28: 3.0") (12/29: 0.8")

(1/1: 6.4")

I'm glad I decided to clear two of my snow boards just before the crap moved in.  I didn't want to see my snow get packed down and wrongly deflate my total.
