That station, though...

Yeah the station is a problem, but either way this month sucked with no snow at the airport!

Maybe my post yesterday was premature, models have all weakened precip forecasts for the storm coming in. May be more like 1-3" for me.

Models have trended even snowier for today (been an overachieving theme this season) so it's now looking more like 8-12" for me and 5-8" in town.

Looks like the heavy snow should begin within the next hour or so along with dropping temperatures throughout the day. Going to be quite the storm!

Highest daily snowfall: 5"

Deepest snow depth: 12"

Since we lived here, the latest first zero or below temperature at my house was December 4 (2008, 2013, and 2016).   It look like we will break that record this year for sure.

Monday night and Tuesday night are forecast to be 8 and 10F, but it seems unlikely that it will get cold enough to drop to zero, even though we are often a few degrees colder than downtown:

http://f1.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lat=40.518014900000026&lon=-107.5494736#.WiREQUqnG1s

There are no signs of dropping below zero anytime soon in the forecast.

At the official weather station, the latest first below zero temperature was 12/19/2012 (it dropped down to 1 at the official weather station on 11/12/2012, but below zero at my house).

4" fell here from 11am to 2:45pm (my last measurement) today. Not bad for middle of the day accumulation! The snow is still falling and should continue, heavy at times through this evening. Temps are steadily dropping off, down to 28F now.

Been a busy day for our ATV plow!

Have picked up 7.4" here officially so far and still coming down pretty heavy out there. Currently 26F.

Nothing better than a heavy fresh snowfall on Evergreens adorned with Christmas lights!

Models under-did precip for once and I had my first snow last night. 3.2" on my car this morning, but I need to go see what my snowboard got to be sure on the final number. But there are lake showers in the area so maybe I can get a bit more if I am lucky.

Either way, nice to finally see some snow! Assuming the airport picked up something, this ties for 10th latest on record for 1st snow at KSLC.

Can't wait to see snow here again. Looks like it still might be awhile.

Definitely been really fortunate up here. I'm still really surprised by the N-S gradient in not only the temps but also precip over the past couple of months. Slightly below average last month here with record snowfall compared to record highs in UT/CO and very dry conditions. Incredibly large contrast.

Picked up another 2.8" here overnight. Brings my 24 hour total up to 10.2" This storm even bested the early November storm giving me my largest snowfall of the season. Still getting some very light snow but I think we're about done with accumulations. Very impressive storm considering the brunt of it hit during peak solar heating yesterday afternoon.

Cold air is settling in now and should stick around for a while. Maybe a bit of a warm up to above freezing by late this week if we can break out of the inversion. Either way, all this snow isn't likely to go anywhere for a while. Currently 22F.

Yeah, but that N/S gradient has changed over the past couple weeks.

I know you were. I was just showing how that general trend had changed recently.

Small week or so blip. :)  The general trend this season has been cooler north, warmer south. That trend will only continue this week.

We may moderate some here in SLC, but the big positive anomalies are done for now. Just 32F right now and probably headed into the teens tonight. Low level cold air will stick around for a while.

Clouds started breaking up just before sunset tonight allowing for some beautiful colors. Hefty snow pack is allowing the temps to plummet this evening, already down to 16F.

This ridge coming up is one for the ages. Massive omega block with a lot of staying power. Probably nothing here for at least 10 days now.

Snow is still on all the trees/roads here as we've remained well below freezing all this week. Inversions are beginning to set in as our extended ridge builds in. Very stagnant conditions expected through at least Tuesday.

Are you getting tired of that at all?

Never!  :) Lots of winter activities to do here no matter your hobby. Snow/cold is just part of life here and is embraced. There are even multiple Nordic skiing centers and ski trails just right here in town so we all root for fresh snow and cold temps during the long winter.

Inversion conditions have set in with pollution building. It looks to continue for at least a week, maybe longer if the trough around the 16-17th can't clear us out.

Longer range maybe another storm cycle setting up about the 21st or so.

Looks like our dry pattern is finally breaking down tonight. Thought we were going to have to wait until Friday night to see snow again but the models have picked up on a weak shortwave diving through the area tomorrow morning. Should end the dry streak at 8 days here which hasn't actually been all that bad with the inversions set in. Still have about 6" on the ground here but it will be nice to get a little refresh.

Expecting maybe 1-2" of snow by tomorrow afternoon.

Friday night a stronger system moves in which should bring more snow than tomorrows system, maybe 2-4". All eyes then turn to Monday-Thursday period as the models, specifically the GFS/GEM show a significant snowstorm and Arctic air plunging through the area.
