Kayla
The ECMWF continues to advertise a quick hitting arctic blast for here with below zero readings. The 00z and now the latest 12z shows lows dropping in excess of -10F on Thursday morning with highs struggling to climb above the single digits. The GFS isn't nearly as aggressive with the cold air so still lots of uncertainty in the models. The ECMWF is also the most robust with snowfall totals next week where it shows 6-10" in town and 8-12" IMBY. So early to mid next week could either get very cold and snowy or just somewhat chilly and snowy. At the very least it's something fun to track! Kayla
Cold air starting to settle in here. Had some light snowfall this morning with just a dusting of accumulation. Looks like the snow showers should pick up this afternoon into tonight and tomorrow as the Canadian cold front continues to push south. The ECMWF continues to insist that we'll see 6-10" by the end of the day on Wednesday while the rest of the models are much drier. I guess the ECMWF is picking up some sort of snow banding over the next few days. Models are also now in agreement that the cold air and unsettled conditions will last through at least next weekend. Kayla
Looking more and more likely that a pretty significant Canadian clipper is going drop in here on Friday. Great agreement in the models with the ECMWF showing 4-8" of snowfall throughout the Bozeman area. Looks like the brunt of the moisture is going to arrive during the daylight hours which could cut down on the snowfall totals but a little tweak here or there could make a big difference. Either way, dropping temps throughout the day, high snowfall rates and strong north winds will give it that Arctic front type of feeling. It's looking like it will be a decent front with some snowfall here on Saturday as well. Models had started to really slow it down and cut back snowfall, but that trend has reversed the past few runs. I know from experience that the models often underestimate the speed and penetration of these continental cold fronts that slide down the mountains. 1 Quote A forum for the end of the world.
