The lack of rain and active weather has been the biggest issue lately. It has actually been coolish here for about a week.

Guess the map is broken then!

Nah, it's just showing monthly anomalies to date. We are about two weeks into the month now, and the first five days were pretty warm.

Yeah I didn't realize that you guys were so warm to start the month. Thought 8 straight below normal days would be plenty to put you below normal but apparently not!

I think the 1st was one of the warmest November days in history, in terms of average temp at PDX (68/59 spread). A +14 anomaly for the calendar day. That will leave its mark on the averages for awhile.

Snow has begun here out ahead of the strong cold front with temps still in the mid 30's.

Looks like the snowfall should become quite heavy by late this morning with plummeting temps. North winds will also pick up with the front causing quite a bit of blowing and drifting snow. 4-6" of snowfall by tonight is looking like a good forecast at this point.

About 4" of new snow on the day and down to 17F currently with moderate snowfall continuing here.

Had quite the flash freeze early this afternoon as the front passed through. Roads were very wet out ahead of the front and now everything is just an ice rink mess out there.

Models are looking a lot better for the 22-30th period. Models disagree on timing/intensity/location of the individual features but overall looks good. Could end up seeing some snow during that time.

Thursday-Saturday looks wet for sure, with snow at times. Thursday will largely see rain, but could mix with or change to snow. Saturday looks like a good 3-6" for me at this time.

Nice! I think you'll end up doing alright this winter.

Interesting the longer range models keep wanting to build up a +PNA ridge but it keeps getting torn apart as it gets closer. If we can keep that going I think you will be right.

Nice! Models are also locking in on significant snow here as well in the Friday night into Saturday timeframe. ECMWF shows 6-10" around Bozeman but it's still a ways out. Either way, looks like a pretty active period coming up for all of us for once!

GEM wants to give me a major snowfall with the weekend storm, while GFS is still pretty stingy (not sure about Euro).

Snow on the models has backed off somewhat but should still see some, and lots of rain too. Mountains will do great so I can't complain. :)

For my house I think I will see a dusting to 1" tomorrow into Friday morning and 1-3" on Saturday per the latest trends. Longer range keeps it active so I imagine more is coming sooner than later.

Models have locked onto the first significant snowstorm of the season for here. I'm expecting 6-10" in town and 8-12" of snowfall here by tomorrow night. The snow should begin in a few hours with snow banding expected to occur and 1-2"/hr snowfall rates overnight. Should be a fun one to track!

MSU plays UIW at home in the playoffs tomorrow at 1pm...should be an interesting game to say the least!

Looking out the window at 1-2" and coming down...at least for a little bit longer. Nice to finally get some. Probably quiet after today for a bit but we will have another chance next weekend.

About 2-3" here so far with blowing snow. The snow was a bit delayed getting started overnight but it's here now! Sounds like Missoula picked up around 8" of snow and the power is out there.

Should be some pretty good bands moving in here later this morning with 1-3"/hr snowfall rates. Currently 28F.

I've been watching the field crews all morning plowing snow off the field. As soon as they finish clearing one side of the field they have to start right over on the other side of the field. Over and over again. Really coming down out there! http://montint.cordillera.tv/Bozeman/Cameras/bozemanicam_new.jpg

Ended up with 6" of snow today. The system underwhelmed here a bit but still a pretty decent storm. Still getting some snow showers tonight but it shouldn't amount to much.

Didn't see the sun today but it did peek out a little over the Madison range right at sunset this evening.

The last two Euro runs show a pretty major snowstorm for Central Montana this weekend. While the GFS/CMC show almost nothing over the weekend. Question is, who wins out??

The Great Falls NWS discussions are usually pretty boring here but I found this discussion at least somewhat interesting.

For the remainder of the work week it appears that an El Nino
pattern is finally beginning to emerge across the western USA.

Models develop a broad upper level trough with the bulk of energy
and moisture expected to be well south of Montana Wednesday
through Friday. During this time the Great Falls CWA should remain
cool, breezy, and somewhat unsettled as heavy precipitation takes
aim at coastal California and Oregon.

Forecast for this weekend and early next week is currently very
low confidence as medium/long range models differ significantly in
solutions. The overall trend is for cooler, possibly cold to very
cold and unsettled conditions. The ECMWF model is much wetter than
the GFS/CMC models and suggests that several (or more) inches of
snow is possible for central Montana Friday night through Sunday.

For now have limited the forecast to chance PoPs and we`ll see how
models evolve over the coming days before getting too excited
about a significant storm. mpj

Some rain (maybe a dusting of snow) Wed-Thurs for me. A decent storm arrives Friday-Saturday with rain to snow. My area should do much better than the general SLC area in this pattern with deep/moist W-WNW flow.

Could get another storm Sunday but models are all over the place with that one.

Scattered showers and foggy today, very gloomy out there. Looking at 1-4" in the valleys on Friday-Saturday, 3-6" on the hills which should include me. That's my forecast for now, but NWS seems less excited.

Models are still all over the place for this weekends storm so I'm still not even going to guess on snow amounts but it does look likely that I'll at least see a few inches of snow headed into the cold.

Interestingly, even with this very El Niño type pattern Bozeman (and my house) has had measurable snow on the ground since November 6th. With more snow in the forecast and cold temps setting up as we head into December it's very possible that we won't see bare ground until sometime in March.
