As you know, Southern California and pretty much the whole Southwest have been very cold and stormy this May, despite global warming. A storm caused Bullhead City, AZ to be the same temperature as Fairbanks, AK last Wednesday. Another storm is forecast for Sunday and some areas might not even reach 60 F according to the latest forecast. Here's the rank for average high for Downtown L.A. as of May 23. We have 8 days to go and it might finally warm up to near normal for a few days next week.

How cold will this May finish off? Also do you think climate change is causing it?

77 yesterday, 76 today, that brings up the average back to 69.83. It all comes to the last day of May to determine if they will average above or below 70 for the month. 75 tomorrow would bring an exact average of 70.00 for the high.

With all 31 days of May 2019 in the history books, the average high for Downtown L.A. turned out to be a chilly 69.90 F.

Congrats to Phil and I for winning the poll.

May 2019 is now officially:

  1. The coldest average high for May in 42 years (1977 was 69.16 F).
  2. The 22nd coldest May average high from 1877-2019
  3. Only the 22nd May from 1877-2019 with the average high below 70.00 F

Perhaps more remarkable is that in the last 100 years, May’s average high temperature has been under 70 degrees just seven times.
