Recommended Posts

Lightning bugs is about 5/sec. Lightning flash is about 1 every 5 sec.

Was it that stray cell in SC? Not much convective action across the east coast tonight.

NOAA July forecast. Let’s see if the warm and dry prediction for the PNW holds up. If Phil’s prediction about troughing later in the month is correct, then maybe it just has recency bias.

The second and third week of July should be warm, so it might verify that way. Troughing during the last week of the month might not be enough to erase the departures.

February 2014 arctic blast was pretty wonderful, as was 1/10/17.

I'll finally admit to being very young. I was five years old when December 2008 happened, so I don't remember that one all too well.

Well, you come off as much smarter and more mature than many on here (probably including me). So I don’t think anyone will you crap over it.

Dude... last February and the first half of March was pretty much unprecedented for much of western WA in terms of snow and consistent cold. And fairly historic to south of you as well. That was just dumb luck for you... during a wicked cold pattern across most of the western US. Nature delivered in an historic way for the PNW last winter. Ask Kayla in Bozeman for her thoughts. ;)

Portland seemed to be the only place west of the Rockies that didn’t have a unusually cold and/or snowy winter. Was pretty good for almost everyone. Overall 2019 has been a diffrent year overall than 2013-2018 so far it seems.

Tacoma WA elevation 300’

Monthly rainfall-3.56”

Warm season rainfall-11.14”

Max temp-88

+80 highs-2

+85 highs-2

+90 highs-0

Oh, Portland most definitely had a cold February and March. Pretty big departures there. Just didn’t pay off in terms of snow is all.

The winds at our house today got pretty wild. A few 45-50mph gusts for a bit there. I was wondering if there was some circulation present since the wind kept switching directions too.

Summer tornadoes are very, very rare in the PNW.

It makes sense, because most tornadoes this time of the year tend to be warm-cored, and that type normally requires rotating updrafts in storms.

The more typical spring or fall type funnels don't need any supercells. The last warm-tornado west of the mountains I believe was during the June 2009 severe weather outbreak.

Weird. Maybe it was a gustnado? There was essentially nothing indicative of a tornado on velocity scans.

NWS is saying EF-0-EF-1.

I was ALMOST five when it rained at the coast in January 1980.

I was almost four when Mt St Helens blew up!

Hmm. Unless I’m missing something on the velocity scans, I think it might be one of these.

Then again, I wasn’t there.
