Niko
This morning certainly has a bit of that autumn feel. I'm enjoying the cool, crisp air that is seeping into my house. Currently 56F/54F and heading into the low 70's today with another day of lake winds. My grid temps over the next 7 days keep lowering and next week will likely be even chillier. Is it conceivable some places up north will have to turn on their furnace or have the fireplace burning??? Speaking of the August chill, some spots up in the upper & lower MI are dipping into the upper 30's!Last night my local weatherman said that parts of SEMI stand a good chance of dropping into the 40s ( my area included and I can definitely see some records being broken tanite) . Not sure about 30s, but 40s are in, for sure. 1 Quote Snowfall for Winter 2023 -24 for Metro Detroit Area Oct 2023: 0.2" AN Nov 2023: 2.2" AN Dec 2023: 0.5" BN Insane! westMJim
I had a overnight low of 51 here at my house and it looks like the official low at Grand Rapids was 52 (note there were lows in the 30’s and 40’s in the UP and northern lower) that low of 52 and my low of 51 are the coolest lows since June 14th And as Tom stated above it can get cold fast in parts of Michigan as it is not uncommon for it to get into the 30's in August in northern lower and parts of the UP I remember when I was a kid and there was frost on the tent when camping in August near Gaylord and again later that week just west of the Sault
CentralNebWeather
Though the weather has cooled, we just can lose the humidity. Football last night was 70 degrees but 68 dew. This morning is 70 degrees with 70 dew. One of the most humid summers that I can remember. Jealous of those east of us that have had the drier air.
East Dubzz
Looks like today's 12z GFS run doesn't drop that high pressure down as fast and some rain showers are in the area next weekend. I don't want to get caught up in the details too much, but is the Euro showing something similar, or did the GFS break off on it's own for now? Tom
It was a splendid day around here yesterday as ORD recorded a high of only 74F along with mostly sunny skies while a stiff NE wind blew all day long. Once the sun began to set, and the effects of the sun faded, I felt the chill in the air. There were people taking a stroll around the neighborhood and for the first time in weeks, they had to wear long sleeves and light jackets. In my eyes, that marked the first day where it felt like autumn is here. There will be many more evenings in the days ahead where no longer will it be warm enough to wear a T-shirt and be comfortable. Well, maybe if your sitting next to a toasty...fire??? I'm ready! 'Tis the season for bon fires....

Andie
We got a little thunderstorm popped up this evening. I honestly thought it would just slip North and east but it pouring outside. I'm grabbing some fresh rain for inside plants that's nice and charged from all the lightning. Temps dropped to 73*. We'll be back to 99-100 tomorrow but I'll enjoy this while I can. I think slowly the summers back is being broken and we will see our way out of the past 3-4 dreadful weeks. Looks like we'll get .20 to .25" of rain. CentralNebWeather
Looks like a lot of farmers can shut off the wells as the rains yesterday and overnight probably brought irrigation season to an end. We had another .70” overnight so I had close to 2.25” total. Many areas had over 4” easily. Am hoping for drier air as we haven’t had a cool morning in several months as humidity has been relentless. Even this morning it is 65 degrees but 100% humidity and 65 dew with some fog. Maybe low 50’s for lows later this week. We’ll see.

jaster220
Another chilly morning here in Marshall with 52F. Just missed 40's Saturday morning with a 50F. As Tom mentioned, Thursday and Friday evenings were the first walks where a light jacket was in order (with shorts and flops, lol) since June. A solid couple months of summer including a warm July saw GL's surface water temps spike nicely. I was in Harbor Springs last weekend and the water temp in Little Traverse Bay was 73F which is about as warm as anyone could remember it getting. Amazing turn-around considering the 3+ feet of solid snowpack that was OTG there when I last visited March 3rd. I think we caught literally the last weekend of true summer boat-n-beach wx. It's such a beautiful region, especially during the 2 months of peak warmth. I was in that region during the late part of the hot summer of '83 which may be the last time they saw such warm temps in the big lake? I've lived in the Mitt basically my whole life and despite decades of stagnation in SMI it's still a busier place than I care for. Now ofc with the strongest economy here since the late 70's an infrastructure that is sorely dated is over-taxed. Been up to the Traverse Region twice this summer and cannot believe the amount of growth/building/expansion since my time there in the 90's. Visiting there circa summer of '90 just prior to my move in Sept of that year was like going to another state (out west?) in it's quaintness and seasonal flavor. Now, it's more like going to what Grand Rapids was back then. Downtown TC is like a "mini Chicago" in style and you can almost feel the influence. Can't imagine how crowded Pure Michigan would've gotten without (4) decades of down times economically speaking. The Sunshine Belt saw all that boom time growth while we sat idle. While I'm ofc grateful for the better economy to make a living by, some of the side-effects are a lot less appealing. 1 Quote Winter 2023-24 Snow Total = 53.1" (90% Normal Season) Largest Storm: 12" (1/12-13) Oct: 0.1 Nov: 2.9 Dec: 7.5 Jan: 31.7 Feb: 6.0 Mar: 4.3 Apr: 0.1 Avg = 59.2" (Harrison): 2023-24 = 53.1" Avg = 45.0" (KDTW): 2022-23 = 33.5" 2021-22 = 35.6" Avg = 49.7" (KRMY): 2020-21 = 36.2" 2019-20 = 48.0" 2018-19 = 56.1" 2017-18 = 68.3" 2016-17 = 52" 2015-16 = 57.4" 2014-15 = 55.3" 2013-14 = 100.6" (coldest & snowiest in the modern record!) 2012-13 = 47.2" 2011-12 = 43.7" Legit Blizzards (high winds and dbl digit snows): Feb 2011, Dec 2009, Jan 2005, Dec 2000, Jan 1999, Mar 1998, Nov 1989, Jan 1982, Jan 1978, Jan 1977, Apr 1975, Mar 1973, Jan 1967, Feb 1965, Jan 1918

Yes...agree...Detroit is also getting a lot better, especially suburban areas. More businesses and population is increasing like crazy. Just wish we had normal drivers, (A lot of tailgaters here which I find very annoying). Otherwise, its looking much more promising. Not sure if anyone has notice, but construction work this Summer has been too extreme. Everywhere you drive, you see them working. Outta hand for sure. 1 Quote Snowfall for Winter 2023 -24 for Metro Detroit Area Oct 2023: 0.2" AN Nov 2023: 2.2" AN Dec 2023: 0.5" BN Insane! Jan 2024: 17.0" AN Feb 2024: 1.9" BN Insane! East Dubzz
Thanks for the best wishes from some of you guys! Things are looking pretty solid for next weekend. We’re also heading to Antigua for our honeymoon next Monday, so thankfully Dorian will be our of the area and doesn’t look to impact that island.
Niko
Glad you scored that 2+ inches over there. The wait for my immediate vicinity continues. Thanks bud. This t'stm came outta nowhere. The radar was looking clear and suddenly 5 minutes later, the sky was getting really dark. Winds were picking up. I literally ran to my PC to see whats going on because (minutes ago, I remember checking my radar and was free of any storms, so was very curious) and suddenly I see this big storm popping up ova Macomb county. It was amazing how it blossomed from nowhere. Lasted a good 20 minutes. Vivid lightning, strong winds and torrential downpours. Not too much thunder though, very light, ironically. 2 Quote Snowfall for Winter 2023 -24 for Metro Detroit Area Oct 2023: 0.2" AN Nov 2023: 2.2" AN Dec 2023: 0.5" BN Insane! Feel blessed and very lucky. Shes Greek and a great cook. Its a good feeling, but you have to be with the right one. Secret to a happy marriage is "Trust."Went to Cancun for our Honeymoon and loved it. Had some really good breakfast there (most importantly, loved their Orange Juice). Weatherwise, was veryyyyy humid and saw a few severe storms there. Temps were in the 80s for highs and 70s and 80s for lows. Dews in the upper 70s to low 80s. Then went to Greece for 2 weeks. Totally different climate there.Good Luck! 2 Quote Snowfall for Winter 2023 -24 for Metro Detroit Area Oct 2023: 0.2" AN Nov 2023: 2.2" AN Dec 2023: 0.5" BN Insane! Pretty sure we're all wishing you well even if not all are here posting. Congrats and hope it's a beautiful time whether the wx is nice or not. You only get one wedding day (ideally) so make the best of it. When my wife and I married on 12-29-08, I think we caught the nicest day (55F and sunny) of an otherwise historically snowy and stormy month/winter. As a matter of fact, by the time we were wrapping up the ceremony and heading to the reception, a CF with strong winds and knarly clouds was sweeping through the area here. KBTL just to my west tallied 118" of snow during the calendar year of 2008. On a side note, my daughter recently got engaged. Again, hope all goes well and try to enjoy as much as you can! 1 Quote Winter 2023-24 Snow Total = 53.1" (90% Normal Season) Largest Storm: 12" (1/12-13) Oct: 0.1 Nov: 2.9 Dec: 7.5 Jan: 31.7 Feb: 6.0 Mar: 4.3 Apr: 0.1 Avg = 59.2" (Harrison): 2023-24 = 53.1" Avg = 45.0" (KDTW): 2022-23 = 33.5" 2021-22 = 35.6" Avg = 49.7" (KRMY): 2020-21 = 36.2" 2019-20 = 48.0" 2018-19 = 56.1" 2017-18 = 68.3" 2016-17 = 52" 2015-16 = 57.4" 2014-15 = 55.3" 2013-14 = 100.6" (coldest & snowiest in the modern record!) 2012-13 = 47.2" 2011-12 = 43.7" Legit Blizzards (high winds and dbl digit snows): Feb 2011, Dec 2009, Jan 2005, Dec 2000, Jan 1999, Mar 1998, Nov 1989, Jan 1982, Jan 1978, Jan 1977, Apr 1975, Mar 1973, Jan 1967, Feb 1965, Jan 1918
