It will be October in a few hours!

September ended cooler than normal in Klamath Falls. Average high was -4 degrees departure and the mean was 55.5 this month (-2.0 departure). 1.87" precipitation at KLMT, more than 3 times normal September rainfall.

And let's look at a comparison of the coldest high temperature last so many Septembers...

09/29/2019 - 47*

09/30/2018 - 64

09/21/2017 - 54

09/22/2016 - 58

09/16/2015 - 53

09/25/2014 - 60

09/25/2013 - 47*

09/23/2012 - 73

09/25/2011 - 63

09/09/2010 - 60

09/29/2009 - 52

I had my coolest in 6 years it looks like. But Sep 2019 may have been my wettest in longer than a decade, as well as having probably the best September thunderstorms locally as well in over a decade.

Looks like September 2012 was very warm.

Interestingly Sep 2012 didn't even feature heatwaves in K-Falls, just consistently warm. My hottest week of September was in 2017 first 7 or so days. Hit close to 100 a couple times.

Looks like today's low is occurring right now but a few degree difference might still equal a 55.5 mean.

Can't wait until we're on the eve of a snowstorm that delivers. Will be my first time experiencing that in real time on this blog (the second part, at least). I have a good feeling about winter :D

Also, looks like PDX is at 48 right now with skies clear. Was 49 at this time yesterday, so we could see another sub-40 low.

Already down to 40 degrees as of 4am. Should end up being the earliest sub 40 low I’ve ever recorded. Would not suprise me to see frost on the ground here either.

Then the uncertainty and anticipation shifts from "will it snow" to "will it be as epic as forecast".

Then it's a "wow, this is incredible, it really happened!" if it all pans out and is as epic as forecast (or, better yet, more epic, as on the morning of 9 Feb this year when I woke to 8" on the ground and still snowing hard after a night when up to 6" was forecast).

It's called clown range for a reason.

37 degrees here in Tacoma. Could drop another degree or two before sunrise. This is by far the earliest in the season I’ve seen it get this cold.

September ran an average min/max of 67/55 with 2.84” of rain. Warmest day was 80 degrees on 9/3, the coolest was 53 on 9/29. September 2019 was the most active September I have ever seen in terms of weather and hope to see more September’s like this one in the future. The thunderstorms and heavy rains really made this September into an exciting month.

36 degrees now in Tacoma right at sunrise. Light patchy frost on some of the rooftops and grass. The coldest low I’ve ever recorded for the whole month of October is 34 on 10/31/06. I can’t ever recall seeing frost on the ground before November here so close to the Puget Sound.

32 here, good for my first freeze. Looks like it's down to at least 37 at PDX. Record low there is an impressive 33 today but 37 tomorrow and 38 the next day.

Impressive.

But then again, it can freeze any day of the year in Sunriver. I’ve experienced a 30°F low on July 3rd. Once it frosted there on August 1st.

SLE ended September with a -0.4 departure.

Running a +0.7 departure on the year. If it holds it will be the coolest calendar year since 2013. If we are cooler than normal the rest of the year it could be the coolest year since 2011...

KBLI bottomed out at 37˚F again overnight. I blame clouds for it not reaching freezing.

Historical records say odds strongly favor my seeing frost at some point this month.

Gfs still showing the system moving out of the NW early next week. What it is also showing now is another system moving out of the NW again lowering heights and bringing more rain.
