You love the word "filthy".

Yup, an appropriate one when describing/reporting the conditions IMBY at the moment.

Whoa. Late autumn heavy rain and THUNDER. Gutters overflowing. I did a poor job of cleaning them out last month.

Good thing we got the dying magnolia tree out yesterday.  Tons of overhanging branches would have been a big mess.

Models look boring for now...but I’m not really going to lose hope unless it’s late February and nothings happened. It could all look completely different in a week from now. Still ALOT of time left before March has arrived.

I remember how much wailing and gnashing of teeth there was amongst weather geeks in the third week of last January…

It's called clown range for a reason.

January guys...all of the greats had drought and split flow garbage leading up to them throughout December right?

Mild and wet this month would have been a great sign. We are heading into 1976-77 territory now...

Was a fun couple of hours for sure.  It's calmed down now but that was the most fun I've had weather-wise since 2-25-19.

A lot of places have already surpassed what they saw in Dec 1976, or will soon.

Obviously 1976-77 is an extreme example. So we may be one tier up. I still think we could score in January.

He operates in that nebulous, semi-serious/semi-trolling space quite a bit...not pure trolling, more often than not it's inner weenie poking out.

In other words, sometime when you think he's trolling, he's not actually - and vice versa.  ;)

I'm still liking late December/early January as the best window for significant Arctic air.

Which I believe would still qualify as a front-loaded winter. Just not to the extreme.

How does it look days 13-15? I'm more interested in the progression, not just a smoothed 6 day period.

I can do a 1-day average... or 5 days.    Here is the last day of the run:

ecmwf-ensemble-avg-namer-z500-anom-1day-

ecmwf-ensemble-avg-namer-t850-anom-1day-

Split flow.
