Nothing will ever top how creepy sloths are. And I came across an article a while back that they actually used to be larger than people some ages ago.

He works there but has colleagues throughout the area. Trust me. He told me no details until it locks in early next week.

Wow this run is not fun.

The 2004-05/1976-77 comparisons seem pretty apt right now, locally. Of course this won't be anywhere near as cold as 1977 in the East.

Both winters peaked in early January with some actual troughing before quickly returning to ridging and split flow that lasted until mid March.

Be careful. I got completely shredded for going there yesterday. But sometimes it just is not our year.

Eww. 1977 was a disaster in the snowfall department here, and 2005 was full of near-misses. Will gladly take my chances with this regime versus the flat waves of those suppression depression patterns.

I just told my wife...

That winter is over.

.01” on the day. Currently 40 degrees.

Lol. It’s the second week of December. Y’all are crazy.

The truth is that we're really owed one after last year's late winter hail mary.

Would be totally insane for two winters in a row to start so splitty and ugly and still wind up worthwhile for the region. These types of patterns tend to be hard to shake, and our climo is pretty consistent with that, 2018-19 notwithstanding.

1977 was historically cold for the East and 2005 was historically snowy for New England and the interior NE (Cleveland's #1 winter for snow). I think you'd take your chances with something like either, smaller scale snowfall synoptics aside. Point being that those were obviously both eastern-centric winters.

Justin and Andrew say it’s over...So it’s over.

Definitely not over, and it would be hard for January to end up being as bad as December will be from a 500mb perspective (though I'm sure it will try to find a way).

Given how it's playing out right now, people should just be prepared for the rest of winter to finish what NDJ 2018-19 started. I suspect it might actually take another big ENSO flip to get out of this weather rut. Or maybe we'll defy the odds and just get nailed again.

This. I have to wonder the same thing. I will say that unfortunately we are due for a complete and utter Winter dud, especially the lowlands. I hope not. ....
