Happy New Years everyone! 2020 will be here in just a few short hours...

Looks like 2019 is ending on a rather warm note locally.

Average high this December is 41.5 (+3.1) and low is 27.1 (+6.5) with a monthly Mean at 34.3 (+4.8) degrees.

A contrast to the cool anomaly in late summer and early fall.

New year and new decade. Climate change should accelerate and 150 degree heat should be common inland while the towns of Newport and Astoria go underwater.

This is going to be good.  I have felt it for many weeks now.  You can ask my friend that I have been texting all season about how big this winter is going to be.  He knows when I'm serious.

I definitely think some, if not many people on this forum are going to see snow at some point over the next 2 weeks.

Other than that, I'm trying to keep expectations low. But the pattern predicted by the GFS operational and ensembles is certainly one that could repeatedly deliver
solid snowfall if everything lines up right.

It sure looks like it.  It's looking more likely we could have a long lasting deep cold wave.  At the very least it's going to be better than most Jans since 1982.

I was pretty stoked about the notable improvement on the EPS tonight also.  Quite a bit sharper with the GOA block and a lot chillier on the 850mb temp mean.

Got some blustery winds in Bonney Lake. Saw some power flashes -not fireworks- a little after 1am.

About 6300 outages in southern Vancouver island currently. The BC southern interior is being buried in a significant snowfall with widespread power outages east of Kamloops

Took my wife to dinner at about 7:45 (25th anniversary of our first date) and she saw some lightning flashes up in the clouds off to the north. All is quiet now except for the occasional firework

6Z has lowland snow by the 8th.  The high latitude part of the block is much stronger.

Going to be interesting to see if the high latitude part of the blocking complex is for real or not in future runs and other models.  The outcome is way colder with that.  Probably a Jan 1969 look to the 6z.

Big snowstorm for the Washington lowlands after hour 240, very nice to see. I like that each consecutive run also shows some offshore flow as the lows dive in.

It is depicting a snowstorm for Puget Sound Day 9.5 to Day 10 and much colder.

It's nice to see for sure but I wouldn't put too much weight on it, the 06z has a history of showing the goods.

I just love the overall trend and timing has gone way up.

That snowstorm it is depicting on Day 10 is a major one.
