Strong winds have kicked up over the last couple of hours here. Ratcheted the temperature up from 43F to 58F in a matter of minutes.

Forecast discussion mentions a slight chance of precipitation Friday night into Saturday. I'm not getting my hopes up, however.

Foggy in Downtown LA as the offshore flow is too weak to push it out.

Upcoming storm at the end of this week is looking, well, weak. At least we're in for a decent temperature drop.

Low clouds moved in quickly this evening. There were some high clouds throughout the day as well, mostly in the morning.

The sun will reach more than 45 degrees above the horizon at midday tomorrow. It will be the first time since last October 22.

Plenty of days 70 degrees or higher for Downtown LA so far this February. Definitely not a repeat of last year.

Also only a trace of rainfall in Downtown L.A. so far this month. Compare that to rain almost every day last February.

Looks like central to southern CA have some precip coming up. Many NorCal stations will likely see their driest February on record. Most Bay Area stations and inland NorCal stations excluding the far northern mountains are at a goose egg for the month with zero on the way.

Interesting how Downtown L.A. is often warmer than my location during the winter. Completely the opposite from May through October.

It was quite warm earlier today during my walk, but since then clouds have increased and temperatures are dropping considerably.

Real rain just started falling here. I was watching a band of showers moving northeast over the Santa Ana Mountains towards us and here it is.

The ground is dry this morning. Looks like the storm might be an underperformer but it's too early to tell. A cutoff low is a weatherman's woe.

It's still sprinkling here but yet to be measurable.

 

I've been reading about the 1/11/1949 snowstorm across Southern California. Looks like unusually deep low pressure and convection were involved. Even Mr Marine Layer would have seen snow in Orange County. Has nothing to do with the current weather, but just an interesting read. Very cold month.
