March 2020 Weather Discussion for the PNW

Recommended Posts

Sure... don't need 2 weeks straight though.   That does need to be the only criteria to call it a "good" run.

Then you will be right back to complaining when 2 weeks of sun follows the 2 weeks of rain.   It would be nice if nature could mix it up on a shorter time scale.   But that is not how it works most of the time.

Make it 3 and you have yourself a good run.

Fine... but then there will be 3 weeks of dry weather. Better if we had a nice mix each week.

Looks like another freeze tonight.  The surface pressure gradients turned northerly again today and ushered in some slightly cooler / drier air.  Looks like a pretty nippy monthly average in the works.

Cold trough in the long range.

The models keep showing part of the broken up PV coming into play for us at months end.  Still a chance we could catch a pretty good shot of cold from that.

At day 5 the ECMWF is really trying to drive some of the PV down toward us as it shreds apart.  Could be an interesting window there.

00Z ECMWF is actually way nicer after day 5 than previous runs.

The 12z shows a pretty good chunk of maritime polar air from the bifurcated PV swinging through here around March 31.  Hopefully we can get a couple of really chilly days when that happens.

I’m hoping this nice weather lately will slow down the virus. Warm sunny weather can help us heal.

The economic devastation coming will linger for a decade.

Please snowizzard -stop looking for cold and snaps. We need warm warm warm to save the planet.

Yeah let’s get those beaches as packed as possible. This “nice” weekend has probably clenched a statewide shelter in place order.

Just stop. The weather will do what it's going to do. Overall... warmer weather is a good thing historically with viruses. I think being out in the sun and the fresh air is a good thing as long as people maintain distance. There will always be idiots not following the rules. You can't just assume terrible weather from now until June will solve this problem. That is absolutely silly... even though its a desire of yours anyways which is convenient.

I will also say that whatever is good for local crops right now is probably good for all of us.

Can pretty much bank on that. The fact that we are now approved to activate national guard pretty much seals that deal I'd bet.

Yep... normal rain and mild temps is usually good with a fair amount of sun.

It would be nice if can avoid any more significant cold.

Not good in regards to weather that will help virus spread.

Have you seen pictures of Rattlesnake Ledge over the past few days? The weather has been perfect and people are treating it like they are on a holiday break or something. And I would suspect many other trails, parks, and lakes around the area are packed also. To me, it just feels like it's completely irresponsible.

You're exactly right in the fact that the weather will do what it wants to do, people just need to be smarter about it and practice social distancing for their sake and the sake of others.

I did see it and posted some pics.

Q13 was on Mt Si yesterday and they said people doing OK with distancing... David Rose posted it on his FB page.

I am not sure a mountain top is a breeding ground... Safeway is probably much worse and there is nothing we can do about that.   But that is apparently a VERY controversial opinion in this current situation.    ;)
