April 2020 Weather discussion for the PNW

18z ensembles look a little improved. It appears some members are starting to catch onto the colder weekend idea the Euro is having.

 

Weather forecasting lately almost has a throwback feel to it, with the drop off in data due to flight restrictions. Some of the most consistent uncertainty in the mid range I can remember in a while. Five days is the new ten!

I’ve noticed it even in the near term with boundary placements, etc. It’s especially migraine inducing having mesoscale models waffling all over the place with two potential severe weather events over the next three days in the pipeline..minuscule changes can mean so much.

The weekend is looking fine. Some people just have panic attacks if temps are less than ten degrees above average.

Triggered!   I have been saying the westward solution was likely for 3 days now.   And this past weekend was colder than average and it was lovely.    

 

If anyone has been panicking about anything... its you over some dry weather.

Quite a persistent Hudson Bay vortex showing up in recent runs; in the winter this is among the dullest patterns we could get. No inversions at this time of year, hopefully we can sneak some rain in:
