May 2020 Weather discussion for the PNW

It has rained 10 of the past 11 days here.

Saw Meacham, OR ended up with 2.55" of rain on Wednesday.

Gfs looks roughly the same as the 6z...basically all the rain over the next few days is in western WA and SW BC...not a ton of rain pretty weak in terms of rainfall.

the late week ridge is even more suppressed.

Ensembles appear to have followed suit with that. Interesting since last night’s Euro was the hottest in a few days.

We could wind up with 2 heat spells this month if the models are right. Gfs doesn’t look quite as warm.

The Euro also wasn’t great with convective chances. Which would be the number one thing I’d be excited about if we do end up getting a heat spell to close the month.

I’ve only seen a hail event like that once in my life....back in October 2017 we had 3/4” deep hail accumulation in like 20 minutes one night it was pretty cool! The cell over the belfair area last night sat there for quite a while...I was watching it on radar.

I think it was just fed up with its owner who kept looking at the GFS and believing it was in any way a reliable forecast model.

It’ll be interesting to see if we can get a couple of really hot days here in May...it’s been awhile since we’ve had a 85+ degree day here at this location in the month of may...last time was 5/17/08 at my house.

18z GFS and its ensembles tone down the warm/hot period a good deal. Seems to be the trend the last 24 hours. I imagine we will see it reverse again at some point.
