They have occasional cougar sightings in the park. Mission Lake has decent fishing for panfish, bass and whatever else gets stranded in there when the river floods in the winter.

Lake County is beautiful. Admittedly I’ve never been south of Fort Rock and Christmas Valley but there’s a lot of fault block features and wide open spaces. Really I just like how remote it is. The sky seems massive and you can see for dozens of miles.

Felt inspired by this thread to post some of my better “in nature” photos over the last 3 years. Had lots of material from several different locations...Orcas Island, Anderson Island, Sourdough Gap, Chinook Pass, Mt.Hood and Walput lake. I have thousands of photos but I’ll try to get the best ones.

I made this hokey montage of famous Cascade peaks after a trip in August 2015. What's interesting about it is that it shows what may have been all-time record low snowpacks on each mountain following the infamously crappy winter of 2014-15.

Lots of beautiful things to see. The drive on OR 126 from Florence to US 20 would be better if it were a 4-lane divided freeway but other than that it's awesome.  ;)

Gets obnoxious being behind trucks and not being able to see the beauty in front of you.

Would love to see it one day. Would also love to see the beautiful sights with a more open road and a wider vista. I know I'm in the minority bigly on this.

Many would argue a giant freeway would diminish scenic beauty and the backroads character of the area.

I just goggled the route and I can see what you mean. Sometimes when I go to the Coast I just want to take it slow and enjoy the scenery but there's always tailgaters who make you speed up. It ruins the drive for me.

Nice! Did you drive in through Silverton or the southern route? If you come in through Silverton you will pass by my place, though I am off the main highway about a half mile. We are about 2 miles from North Falls. The creek is running higher than normal for this time of year so the falls should look nice today.

I love taking the back country roads on either side of the Willamette Valley. Never been out that way but I got to try sometime, also need to explore the areas down towards Eugene more.

The country down around Scio and Sweet Home ranks high in my book.

Nice! Did you drive in through Silverton or the southern route? If you come in through Silverton you will pass by my place, though I am off the main highway about a half mile. We are about 2 miles from North Falls. The creek is running higher than normal for this time of year so the falls should look nice today.

I went through from the north so through Silverton (nice town). Just finished the full trail of ten falls. Will post pictures when I get home as they are on my camera. The falls looked wonderful today, lots of water.

Could have something to do with all of the Scottish weather we have been seeing.

I was doing a Google tour of the area around Eugene... is this all logging scars in the foothills?
