Lake Michigan water temp is a balmy 39F near the Chicago shoreline.  Some upper 40's temps showing up near the south shores.  I highly doubt anyone will be entering the water at the beaches this Memorial Day Weekend...unless of course they are drunk.  Boating season in Chicago is having a slow start.

i agree that only a crazy drunk will do that plus the temps like that that a sober ones will not do that with temps in the upper 30s like you said tom.

You mean 49°...

Actually it's warmer than that. If it was 39° it would be colder along that lake than 50°.

I was using a different site and it had a cooler pool of water near the Chicago shoreline.  There seems to be a discrepancy.  Upper 40'/low 50's water temp seems about average, but still very chilly to take a dip.  I remember last year MDW they were in the low 60's.

I've waded into water that cold before. It's shocking to say the least.

So raw today. 0.51" of rain through 7am.

So I hear its a pretty miserable day in Chicago...44F and rain/gloomy, tomorrow looks nasty as well.  00z Euro has temps in upper 40's, March like temps in May.  The July like temps earlier last week were quite the tease I'd imagine.

At least the Hawks are in the Conference Finals!  4 times out of the last 6 years is very impressive....Let's Go Hawks!!!!  I think I'd rather root for the LA Kings to win tomorrow so that the Hawks have Home Ice advantage.  Anyway you look at it, Ducks or Kings, it will be a tough team to play against.

Sun has come out in Racine and the temperature responded. So no highs in the 40s today.

No snow up this way near the lake. Too warm. Did see the pictures though - really wild!

Sun is trying to come out in Racine now. In the mid 40s here.

ORD or MDW probably won't get any measurable snow, but a lot of N/NW suburbs reported between 0.2 - 0.7 inches of snow.  The latest measurable snow on record is May 11, 1966 when 0.2 fell.  I dunno about you, but this is as close as breaking a record for latest measurable snowfall.

Speaking of cooler weather, CPC has chilled their summer forecast for the region.  June also continues the same below normal pattern.  The year without a real summer still in the cards.  Last week was probably the only REAL Spring like week since March in our region.  Next week is looking better.

Euro nailed today's forecast.  I doubt ORD gets out of the upper 40's today.  This system is a slow mover and cloud deck looks very thick.  Still 39F at ORD.

Edit: Planning on getting back home after MDW.  I sure hope these 40's are a distant memory when I get back.

Indeed James, overnight at NWS Davenport, IA the 3rd coldest air temp was recorded in North America at 500mb...-30C!!!  Are you kidding me???  Goes to show you that the pattern we are in is still repeating.  Proof in the pudding for all those who seem to doubt it.  How many times this past Winter/Spring we saw those kind of temps at 500mb???  Just mind boggling.

Pretty cool satellite image right now.

Partly sunny up here in Racine since about 10am.

Definitely the most anomalous May day that I can remember in my lifetime locally.

Was really glad the clouds kept any frost from forming last night.

this looks like a omega block with the east coast in the warmer temps as well as the west coast and the middle of the nation is cooler than normal another thing is the cooler temps is right over the great lakes and the plains and the rockies.

Looks like all of next week is sustained warmth for the Midwest. Wouldn't mind a slightly cooler summer. (but not like 2004 or 2009)

About 50° now with partly sunny conditions in Racine.

Escaped the frost potential last night. Only hit 40° for a low. Now into the mid 50s with some clouds and sun.
