All about that WPAC...another typhoon/ML interaction = screwy forecasts and a pissed-off Jesse #westernridging

Not pissed off. I've already resigned myself to the fact that western ridging will likely be with us well into autumn, if not most of the winter. It's almost comical to me at this point. :)

Default ridge position has been over the west all year. Even longer really. Why not finish out the year the same way?

Before anyone attempts to crucify me for my claims, this map clearly shows the default ridge position firmly over the west since January 1. Even the cold patterns in early February and early March only brushed the northern tier of the west before settling into the great plains/midwest/east.

Just to clarify I'm not complaining. I really enjoyed last winter (easily one of the best this century so far for NW OR/SW WA) and even though our cold spells were only table scraps compared to what the eastern 2/3 of the nation dealt with I thoroughly enjoyed both of them. The first week and a half of February was epic out in the Gorge and I will never forget it.

Still, even those cold snaps occurred during periods in which western ridging dominated overall. It is what it is.

Hi Richard :)

Tweak. ... "high" "Phil".

... (Let it "loose", once in a while .. perhaps. / And "stuff" your emoticon.)

Don't get me started here regarding the more specific extent to which what you post here should be scrutinized, .. a hell of a lot better than it is by me.

The extreme dryness in CA and the rest of the SW states and to a somewhat lesser degree in OR of this past winter and spring goes to show just how dominant western ridging has been over this past year.

12z runs still seem to be hinting at a nice cool down the second week of August.

Camping up near Mt. Adams tonight, should be perfect weather. :) Maybe even a stray thunderstorm.

I forgot to get you a Blizzard, but I am sure Phil can pick you one up from the Great Ice Age of 2017.
