ratios should start getting better here as the temp drops.

Yes sir. I'm liking the banding location. I think some spots could end up with 10" around these parts. HRRR still showing an additional 4-6", 10-1 ratios. Could be a solid amount by the time morning rolls around.

Lot of reports of, "explosions," per Omaha Police dispatch this evening. Ton of transformers, trees on fire, and lines down. Been a long time since Omaha has had a heavy thick snow like this. Usually more powder.

Update: Over 2500 customers in E. Ne. without power. Mainly east Omaha, where the majority of lines are still above ground. Expect more to follow.

Thanks for the update. Got to imagine outages will go up as the winds increase overnight.

6 to 6.5 inches here in lincoln so far, not counting what melted

And that is huge. Snowfall is "officially" measured every hour on a snow board and then cleared off and repeated and added up.This is done at nearly all major airports by CWO's (contract weather observers) ((don't ask how I know))Snow on the ground is what is commonly reported from folks ( general public)  who measure at the end of the event or every 6 hours. Compaction/melting/ blowing/drifting all play a role.

The two loudest sounds known to man: a gun that goes bang when it is supposed to go click and a gun that goes click when it is supposed to go bang.

Just measured 2.75", this baby is cranking...a nice heavier band just to my SW that should dump up to 1"/hr snowfall rates.  Lehs snowfall showing up near Sheboygan on radar.  Temps still around 31F here, should expect those to drop by mid morning.  Going back to bed.

Transformers just blew one street over This heavy wet Snow starting to take out Transformers. Not sure how much Snow we have eye balling it from the window several inches so far. Crying shame the rain at the beginning of this winter storm cut into current totals a little. Go 12 Time for a repeat a win would be icing on the cake.

4.5" IMBY. Heavy, tiny, wet flakes. I'm leaving for Rochester, NY in about 10 minutes, driving right through this storm's snow belt. Hoping to stay ahead of the heavy stuff and winds. Will try to report along the way.

On a long enough timeline, the survival rate for everyone drops to zero.

Congrats Chicago Crew on yet ANOTHER Bliz!  Hoping this GHD-2 will share the love better over here to your east than GHD-1. GRR saying mby is in a "Sweet Spot" for the trowal snows later, and winds will be ramping. So far, no disco about Bliz Warn upgrade, merely near bliz conditions. Enjoy everyone who's getting in on this. We've all been waiting and hoping for a whopper through this forum and looks like the long wait is over for almost all! Very Dec '00 like system btw.. :D
