Not so sure... the GFS has really stabilized since the upgrade. I saw a few funky ECMWF runs last week that made me think this week would be very wet.

Someone posted the stats on here recently. The Euro has outperformed the GFS in the mid/long range since the GFS was upgraded.

More anecdotedly, the Euro picked up on the current western troughing sooner, as well as the next wave moving down this week.

OK.

Maybe I am not paying close enough attention.

Sure seems the GFS has stabilized though... it does not swing so wildly it seems before day 10.

I was thinking about that a few days ago. GFS really has been pretty steady Eddie since its facelift.

Hope he is right.

Somewhat annoying that places such as Georgia and Louisiana  are having a better winter than we are so far. Looks like they are going to get some sleet and snow tonight.  <_>

I guess the only downside for the people enjoying that is that they have to live in Georgia or Louisiana.

Exactly. I have been to both states. Louisiana is so horrible you can't even imagine if you haven't been there. Georgia is tolerable, though the people are just barely...

Wow, such a goregous day outside! High of 56 here after a low of 28. I work with kids with autism after school and with my student this afternoon we spent an hour and 15 minutes on the trampoline instead of running programs because it was so nice out!

Its awesome you do that after school.

Don't worry the mountains are getting pummeled with snow at hour 384! ;)

Someone else said this month was going to be a cold onshore flow revival.

Wrongness around every climate change corner!

Actually, what I said was that I thought it would be better than January.

After a horrid first half of the month (aside from the much needed rains in CA), we've certainly see a better pattern for the West overall return the second half of this month, better than anything since late December in terms of cold and widespread snowfall. That hasn't translated into "goodies" for the PNW, but the pattern is growing progressively colder, and there's a decent shot of mountain snow coming later this week it appears.
