3/22 - 3/23 Spring Clipper

Tom

Recommended Posts

Might as well start a Thread for this system.  Seems like models have converged on a Clipper type system dropping anywhere from 1-5" from MSP towards N IL.  It will be a narrow band of snow that develops so tracking where this heaviest band develops is rather low.

The area need the moisture - anyway we can get it. Spring snows help green up the grass.

Might need Winter Storm headlines if trends continue.

06z RGEM has >1" precip in a narrow strip from se Minny to far ne Iowa.  Someone could get a real nice snowfall if a heavy band parks over them.

Hearing reports of thunder snow in southern MN this morning. System looks like an over-performer. Plenty cold enough today to support snow around here.

Latest NAM run showing where the heaviest band is likely to set up. Upper amounts shown are likely over done, but some 5" reports aren't out of the question.

SW Iowa is in the 70s, NE Iowa is in the upper 20s with heavy snow.  A guy in Prairie du Chien has already received 2.5 inches.

Flurries here now. Ceiling really dropped in the last half hour. Too cold for any liquid today.

SW WI and the area of Iowa right near the River is going to do very well. Could see some 6-8" amounts in that area, by the sounds of it.

So far just a few flurries here and there. I think the wind off the lake is acting to dry the atmosphere out.

How much do you have right now?  I think your area just got expanded under a Winter Storm Warning.

SE MN getting hit very good right now and that should swing over into WI later tonight.  A nice Spring snow where they need it most in our region.

Have to be close to 6 here in st Charles"

Just east of Rochester???  Man, you might end up with 8"+ out of this system.  There is still a lot more moisture heading your way.

Edit: Your area is probably going to be the bullseye.
