We're back in the doldrums here. Hot, sticky, an occasional storm but nothing to write home about. we have had an unusually cool June as we didn't see 95 except in the southern part of the state. Already past equinox now and so the days will shorten. Temps will rise though I'm not expecting anything historic in the way of heat.
Allergies should be a real test this year with all this water, mold, mildew, and weeds.

At least its falling on someone else. After receiving over 35 trillion gallons of the stuff in a month we were happy to see the back of it. It's still not our usual blistering heat. So far a cooler than usual summer in the mid 90's. We're usually nearing 100 by now.We had over a foot of rain in June..maybe July will be drier..
These super soakers are hard on things however. Hope these haven't been violent.

Last summer, dewpoints were usually maxing out in the mid/upper 60s. This year, they're maxing in the mid/upper 70s. Huge difference in perception.

We're at 98* so far today, this time next week some Mets are saying we'll be at 106* by next weekend
Our heat index is currently at 108*. I just came in and yes, it feels like it. Humidity at 45%, ugh.

Yeah it's the hottest day of the year here right now. Currently 98/78, w/ a heat index of 115. It's the humidity that makes it awful..if we ever got dry heat it'd be a lot easier to handle.

Texas is hot today.
Followed by hot, with
Extended heat.
100* to 102*. It's our required couple of weeks of heat designed to purge the state of folks that thought Texas was the land of milk and honey. Many can't handle it and haul it bag and baggage back to cooler realms. Can't blame them, but I love it here too much to part.
Looking forward to cooler temps and the return of our blue carpets courtesy of Dame Nature.

Storms have firing over the mountains since 9-10pm, however we've gotten the shaft here so far. There's a cluster of severe storms to the north in PA that could work in here by 3-5am if they cold-pool and put down sufficient outflow forcing:

How often are you seeing lighting or hearing thunder?
Not as often lately. About 1-2 times per week since the dry pattern began 4 weeks ago, though 3 of the last 4 days have stormed, including today. Nothing severe this month, either.
June was much more exciting, storm wise. In fact it was probably the most exciting storm month here since June and September of 2012.
Nice avatar, btw.

Lots of trees down from last night's storm (pics later), though it looks like the wind max was fairly localized..not much damage south of a line from Potomac to Wheaton. Someone's big grill was laying on Cider Barrel Drive..in two pieces.

Make sure to post them. So I am in Boston at the Mesoscale Conference and we got hit pretty hard this afternoon. Several tornadic storms in the area...one of them morphed into a bow echo with golfball sized hail and moved into the city. At the conference we had some hail as large as half dollars, along with high winds and heavy rain. There were a few very close lightning strikes as well. That was the biggest hail I have ever seen and it dented a bunch of cars.
Earlier this morning a storm complex went by to the south and ripped up a bunch of trees too.

Awesome, did you get any pics yourself? I'll have mine up either later tonight or tomorrow.
Hope you're enjoying the conference and the weather. Talk about a well-timed visit..hail events like that occur maybe once a year (at best) in any given location on the east coast south of 40N, so you really hit the jackpot.

We're forecast for highs at 105* for the next 4 days. That's a laugh, we had 107* yesterday. That means we'll likely see 107* again this weekend. It's suckin the very life out of everything.

I've been looking at real estate in Clarksburg/Damascus lately. Probably the most beautiful area in MD east of the Blue Ridge, with much more exciting weather overall relative to the DC metro area. I'm really hinking about moving up there when I finish school if I can afford it.

Temps for the next week. We're making up for all the cool weather we had in June. We've been in this cycle long enough now where it's killing things off. Many things struggling. I'm beginning to look forward to that wet cool fall they're predicting via the El Niño pattern.

Sounds nasty..how are the humidity/dewpoints? It's been three years since we've seen that kind of prolonged heat..yikes.
I'll be degreeing in Atmospheric Science and Physics. At the rate I'm going now, it'll take until 2017. I'm transferring into UMD sometime in the next 8-12 months.

We've been lucky enough to avoid the big 100-110* heat since 2012. Since then, we've been maxing out in the upper 90s w/ frequent stretches of sub-90* temps. It's been wonderful.
The worst heat I can recall occurred in July of 2011. Temps were maxing out around 105*, which isn't too abnormal in the modern era, but the dewpoint was sitting between 85-87*. I felt like I was going to pass out and drown just walking to the mailbox. I can't imagine how people can live in places like Qatar and Dubai/UAE.

Very tolerable today..90/58 with no clouds in sight. Looks like the humidity will gradually increase everyday through the next 7-8 days as moisture advection increases along the periphery of the Bermuda high.
Yep, hit 88 today. How is the dryness down there in Maryland?

The dry pattern, rainfall wise, began ~ 4 weeks ago. June delivered 13.74" of rain, and through July 10th we'd had 17.78". Then the spigot shut off. The pattern since July 10th has been quite boring overall. Not much in the way of synoptic action.
How about you guys?

Impressive totals in and around the BWI/DC area during that era. Overall, the pattern has been boring. I think we end this dry spell around the end of August, and with it the Subtropical jet gets kicking.
Same around here. Dry pattern started about a month ago. Its been a meh summer. Severe section here has been quite boring as well. If I reoccur, we had about 7 inches through July 4th. (Central Jersey)
